FULLER ENTERS INTO THE "CYBERSPACE" RECORD BOOK

WEEDSPORT, NY...Years from now when someone asks who won the first DIRT Modified race broadcast over the internet, you'll have to remember the name Tim Fuller. Fuller picked up the $1,500 prize for his 35-lap DIRT Modified feature victory last Sunday on DIRT's first ever "cyberseries" event. Vince Viatle took top honors in the DIRT Sportsman feature, while Tom Juhl continued his domination of the Pit Stop Convenience Stores enduro series. The special Dwarf feature was won by Ken Gamlen.

Tim Fuller was able to blast into the lead at the drop of Dave Farney's green flag from his outside pole starting position. >From that point on he drove like he was completely alone on the track and out to set the land speed record. Fuller built up a whole half lap over second place runner Chuck Bower and third place runner Tim Burnett. Fuller was so hooked up he possibily could have lapped the entire starting field if a yellow flag had not come on lap 25 to bunch up the field for a restart. The yellow came when Scott Prentice slowed in the third and fourth turns, coasting down the front chute.

Fuller started to pull away again but a second yellow, lap 28, when Mike Colsten veered to the right in the fourth turn with a flat tire. Still Fuller was able to hold off his challengers on the restarts and even pull away some. At the finish it was Fuller with his first Cayuga County Fair Speedway victory of the year. He was followed by Bower, Gary Tomkins, Burnett and Todd Milton.

"It was great to win one infront of Glenn and especially Joe (Marotta)," stated Fuller in victory lane. Fuller had been the weekly guest star on Marotta's new auto racing talk show on Saturday mornings from 8 to 9 on AM 620.

The DIRT Sportsman feature saw Vince Vitale pass Jim LaRock for the lead on lap seven and never look back. Rodney Plantz was a serious challenger for the lead until lap 4, when his left front wheel made contact with the inside Jersey barrier in the fourth turn. This resulted in Plantz's tire going flat and his dropping back in the field. By lap 10, Vitale had built up nearly a full straight away lead. One yellow, coming on lap 14, when Ben Tucker and Joe Beyea were involved in an accident in the third turn, slowed the race. It also took away the great advantage Vitale held over his competition.

The closing laps saw Vitale hold off James Spano and Mike Button as they both challenged for the lead. LaRock finished a somewhat distance fourth followed by Plantz, who had pitted on lap 14 to change his front tire.

Twenty-two dwarf cars were on hand for a special 15-lap feature, also broadcast over the internet. Mike Bozzuto grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and was able to hold his own against his teammates Ken Gamlen and Troy VanAllen. On lap three the yellow flew when Oley Johnson looped in the first turn and made contact with the outside wall. He was unable to continue the event.

On lap 10, as the leaders were entering lapped traffic, Bozzuto made contact with a lapped car and was sent spinning, along with VanAllen. Eric Crawford made contact with this accident, bending his front end, and exiting the event as the leader. In just one lap two leaders had been eliminated.

This left Gamlen as the leader. He held off Tom Juhl for the victory. Pat Pontello, D.J. Forbes and Dan Boyce rounded out the top five.

The 40-lap enduro was won by Tom Juhl. This Sunday will seethe IMCA Modifieds join the regular Modified, Sportsman and Enduros. Race time will be at 7 p.m. as the Weedsport oval establishes it's summer hours.
