BARRY WHITE, JOEY GRAMMES, PHIL RETTER, JON WALSH AND TERRY SCHAFFER ARE LAKE MOC-A-TEK WINNERS

060102 - Barry White picked up his first victory of the 2002 campaign in 358

Modified action last Saturday night at the Lake Moc-A-Tek Speedway.

Current point leader Joey Grammes won his third Sportsman feature of the

season while Phil Retter picked up the Street Stock win in his first

appearance of the season. Jon Walsh won his first Lake Moc-A-Tek feature

in the Pure Stocks and Terry Schaffer picked up win number five in 250cc

Micro Sprint action.

The win for White came in dominating fashion as he led every lap of

the feature event. A rough couple of weeks previous found White

handicapped to the front row of the feature event. The longtime veteran

pilot of the Deka Batteries #131 took full advantage of the favorable

starting spot as he blasted to the lead at the drop of the green flag.

Once out front, Barry never looked back as he led the entire distance. A

few late caution flags bunched the field, but Barry was strong enough to

open up his advantage on every restart. Nick Barassi made a late charge

to take over the second spot, but could not mount a challenge to White

over the closing laps. Barry flashed under Kerry Graham's checkered flag

first, trailed by Barassi with a season best runner-up finish. Longtime

Lake Moc-A-Tek veteran Gary Griffin finished third ahead of John Leiby

and Josh Beierle. Alan Kellogg charged from the final row of the

starting grid to finish sixth with Joey Grammes, Dom Roselli, Ed Strada

Jr., and Brian Malcolm rounding out the top ten finishing order.

The Sportsman feature saw Joey Grammes pilot his Slug 'n Slam

Construction sponsored #5 to his third win of the season. Joey started

sixth and wasted little time in making his way to the front of the field,

taking the lead from early leader Larry Hendershot on the sixth circuit.

As the race wound down, Joey was under considerable pressure from

defending track champion Ralph Mele, who had advanced to second and was

mounting a strong challenge to Grammes for the top spot. Joey was up to

the challenge, however, as he was able to hold Mele off to take the win.

Mele trailed Joey across the line to finish second with Criag Whitnoyer

third in only his second ever Lake Moc-A-Tek start. Kyle Weiss finshed a

strong fourth in his first career Lake Moc-A-Tek appearance while Jimmy

Winchell overcame an early race flat tire to finish fifth. Jeff Geake,

Troy Moyer, Mike VanTassel, Buddy Altemose and Tom Gervasi made up the

remainder of the top ten.

Phil Retter made his first start of the season at Lake Moc-A-Tek,

and it was a successful debut as Retter drove his Fleurer Machine

sponsored #44x to victory. Retter started deep in the filed, but worked

his way steadily forward, taking the lead from Bill Price Jr. on the 17th

circuit. Price tried to retake the top spot, but Retter was too strong

and picked up the victory over Price. David Luff came home third ahead

of Jim Redner Jr. and Joe Krisovich. Adam Jones, Greg Buchanan, Jim

Hughes, Mark Morgan Jr., and Eric Moon completed the top ten.

Jon Walsh scored is first ever Pure Stock feature win as he

outdueled Franklin Bush to pick up the win. Bush finished second with

newcomer Gary Druhl finishing third. Jim Balutis and Jeff Simko

completed the top five. Don Leepier, Gary Schoch, Matt Payne, Ted Mills,

and Jason Smith completed the top ten.

Terry Schaffer continued his domination of 250cc Micro Sprint action

at Lake Moc-A-Tek, winning his fifth feature of the season. Terry passed

Stephanie Stevens in the late stages of the event then held Stepanie off

the rest of the way to win. Greg Stevens finished third behind his

sister with Eric Palmer and Davie Franek making up the rest of the top

fove. Ralph Utter Jr., Brian Oliver , Frank Venezia, Pat Potter, and

Kevin Nolf completed the top ten.

Racing continues this Saturday night at Lake Moc-A-Tek. The 358

Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and 250cc Micro Sprints

all see action in a full slate of qualifying event leading up to five big

features. Also on tap on Saturday night is the first of two scheduled

appearances of the Central New York Mini Sprints. The full evening of

racing action will be sponsored by Panther Trucking. Racing gets

underway promptly at 6 PM.
