JOEY GRAMMES, DAVID LUFF, DAVIE FRANEK, DOUG NOME AND JOHN WALSH WIN AT LAKE MOC-A-TEK

(Lakeville, Pa.) - 060802 - Joey Grammes picked up his first 358 Modified victory of

the season last Saturday night on Panther Trucking night at the Lake

Moc-A-Tek Speedway. David Luff won his second Street Stock feature while

Jon Walsh won his second consecutive Pure Stock feature. Davie Franek

won his first 250cc Micro Sprint feature of the season while Doug Nome

won the Central New York Mini Sprint feature.

Saturday night's Sportsman feature was postponed until this Saturday

night due to expiration of the track's curfew. Over five inches of rain

fell on the Speedway on Thursday, making for a very soft and somewhat

rougher than normal racing surface. Racing action got started late and

due to the additional time required to get the track into raceable

condition, and track crews were called on several occasions during the

night to re-manicure the surface. Despite their best efforts, the ground

was too soft and the track stayed much rougher than normal and certainly

not up to Lake Moc-A-Tek's usual standards. As a result, the Sportsman

feature had to be postponed until this Saturday night. Joey Grammes,

Jeff Geake, and Kevin Bates won the Sportsman heats.

While Joey Grammes has been dominating Sportsman action thus far at

Lake Moc-A-Tek, his 358 Modified effort has been a bit more low key, as

Joey has managed to park himself solidly in the championship hunt by

stringing consistent finishes. That changed on Saturday night as Joey

drove his Slug 'n Slam Construction sponsored #5J to his first 358

Modified win of the season. Joey ran down and passed Nick Barassi just

past the halfway point of the event to take over the top spot. Barassi

chased Grammes the rest of the way, but could not find a way past and

crossed the line less than a second behind Grammes at the finish. Ralph

Henneforth finished third with Gary Griffin and and Dom Roselli filling

out the top five. Ed Strada Jr., Bill Reese, Josh Beierle, John Leiby

and George Hildebrandt completed the top ten.

The 358 Modified heats were won by Ed Strada Jr., Barry White, and

Tom Oleski. Don Hildebrandt won the 358 Modfied consolation.

In Street Stock action, David Luff picked up his second win of the

season. Luff and Bill Price Jr. battled for the victory in the closing

laps, but Price lost a good finish when the two tangled while racing for

the lead on the final lap. Luff was able to regain control and race on

for the win, but Price got into one of the infield marker tires which

dropped him to a 13th place finish. Price's misfortune allowed Gant

Hilfiger to move up to the runner-up position with Ed Kudrako, Jim

Redner, and and Pat Duffin completing the top five finishing order. Joe

Krisovich, Eric Moon, Greg Buchannon, Carl Heater, and Gary Surch were

sixth through tenth respectively.

Dave Luff, Ed Kudrako, and Jim Redner Jr. won the Street Stock

heats.

Jon Walsh came home the winner of the Pure Stock feature, his second

consecutive win in the Pure Stock class. Walsh took the win with a

daring move as he, Jeff Simko, Floyd Schmidt, and Frank DelNero Jr.

battled for the top spot. Some close quarters racing found Walsh

emerging from the four car battle with the lead and driving on to score

the victory. Floyd Schmidt came home second with Keith Villano, Jeff

Simko, and Matt Payne completing the top five.

The 250cc Micro Sprint feature saw Davie Franek pick up his first

win of the 2002 season. The talented teenager dominated the feature as

he grabbed the lead early and held on all the way to pick up the win.

Terry Schaffer made a late run at Franek but could not catch Davie as

Franek had built up a considerable lead by the time Schaffer worked his

way into second. Though he was able to close in, Schaffer ran out of

laps before he could make a run at Franek. Behind Franek and Schaffer

were Kevin Nolf, Henry Schlagel, and Greg Stevens. Stephanie Stevens,

Neil Petock, Pat Potter, Alan Shiffler, and Don Erdie completed the top

ten.

The Central New York Mini Sprints made their first of two Lake

Moc-A-Tek appearances of the season on Saturday night. Doug Nome picked

up the victory, his first ever at Lake Moc-A-Tek. Nome drove past Jared

Fink late in the event to score the victory. Fink hang on to finish

second with defending Central New York Mini Sprint champion Lance Odell

third. Dennis Fink and Phil Powerchik completed the top five. Matt

Nome, Jeff Lamathe, and Phil Pewerchik won Mini sprint heat races.

Racing continues this Saturday night at Lake Moc-A-Tek. The 358

Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and 250cc Micro Sprints

all see action in a full slate of qualifying event leading up to five big

features. The Sportsman division will see action in a pair of features

as they will run off their event that was postponed by curfew this week.

Racing gets underway promptly at 6 PM. On Saturday, June 22nd, the

Northeast Vintage Stocks cars will make a stop at Lake Moc-A-Tek, joining

the track's five regular divisions for a big night of racing action and

nostalgia.
