MIKE RICCI, JOEY GRAMMES, GLENN BUCHANNON, TERRY SCHAFFER, AND FLOYD SCHMIDT SATURDAY NIGHT WINNERS AT LAKE MOC-A-TEK

(Lakeville, Pa.) Two time defending 358 Modified champion Mike Ricci

picked up his first win of the 2002 racing season at Lake Moc-A-Tek on

Saturday night. Joey Grammes won his third consecutive Sportsman feature

dating back to the final event of the 2001 season while Glenn Buchannon

drove the Zeiner Race 8 to victory in the Street Stock feature. Terry

Schaffer won his first of the season in the 250 cc Micro Sprints and

Floyd Schmidt won the Pure Stock feature.

By virtue of a heads-up start, Mike Ricci started the 25 lap 358

Modified feature on the pole. At the drop of Kerry Graham's green flag

Ricci powered his Apple Greens Golf Course/Gen Plus Electric #76 Teo Pro

car into the top spot, and Mike would proceed to lead every lap of the

feature enroute to the victory. Opening night winner Ed Strada tried to

make a late run at Ricci but ran out of laps and had to settle for second

aboard his Ron's Rte. 590 Diner sponsored #42. Joey Grammes finished

third ahead of Gary Griffin and second year 358 Modified driver Josh

Beierle, who turned in one of his best drives to earn fifth place. Troy

Weisenfluh, Dom Roselli, Tom Oleski, Everett Haubrich, and Ralph

Henneforth rounded out the top ten. Henneforth's tenth place run came in

his first start back since taking the past couple of seasons off.

In Sportsman action Joey Grammes ran his winning streak to three

consecutive races dating back to the final event of the 2001 racing

season. The Sportsman feature got off to a rocky start as a multi-car

pile-up on the initial green flag did considerable damage to several cars

before the race even officially got started. When the race resumed

polesetter Ralph Mele got the early advantage with Grammes dropping in

behind. The two battled hard for the top spot as Grammes was working all

over the defending champion for the lead before taking the top spot with

a daring outside pass. Once out front, Joey was able to drive away from

Mele to score the win with Ralph picking up the runner-up position.

Sportsman rookie Mike Loney finished a strong third ahead of Bob Grammes

and Mike Marold, who recovered from being involved in the first lap crash

to finish fifth. Jeff Geake, Tom Laner Jr., Kevin Bates, Troy Moyer, and

Ricky Rutt completing the top ten running order.

The Street Stock feature saw Glenn Buchannon drive the Jack Zeiner

owned and prepared Race 8 to victory, his first of the 2002 season at

Lake Moc-A-Tek. Buchannon started third in the feature and wasted little

time in establishing himself as the man to beat at the head of the field.

Jim Redner Jr. tried to chase Buchannon down but Glenn was too strong

and drove the legendary Zeiner machine to the feature win over Redner and

opening night winner Nick Petrilak, who recovered from an early race spin

to finish third. Adam Jones and Joe Krisovich finished fourth and fifth

respectively. Jim Hughes, David Luff, Brian Petrilak, Bill Saxe, and Ed

Kudrako made up the second half of the top ten finishing order.

Reading, Pa.'s Terry Schaffer drove his RTS chassis sponsored #2s to

victory in the Micro Sprint feature. A convincing win in the first heat

found Schaffer sitting on the pole for the 20 lap Micro Sprint feature.

Schaffer grabbed the lead at the start of the feature and led every lap

enroute to the victory. Opening night winner Mike Keppler finished

second behind Schaffer with Davie Franek, Ed Krupa, and Ralph Utter Jr.

in the top five finishing positions. Pat Potter, Kevin Nolf, Jason

Frantz, Stephanie Stevens, and Fred Venezia rounded out the top ten

finishers.

Floyd Schmidt came home the winner of the Pure Stock feature. Jim

Balutis finished second behind Schmidt with Don Leepier, Jay Martin, and

amd John Walsh completing the top five.
