Kenny Tremont Win Again At Devil's Bowl Speedway

Results for July 29, 2001

WEST HAVEN, Vt. - The 358 modified drivers at Devil’s Bowl Speedway must

hate to see Ken Tremont Jr. pull into the gates on a Sunday night. Every

time Tremont makes a trip to Vermont, he walks out with a pocket full of

cash. On Sunday night, Tremont picked up his second win of the season at

the Bowl, outrunning defending overall Champlain Valley Racing Association

point champion Dave Camara to highlight the double point Midseason

Championships.

Because of other commitments, both racing and personal, Tremont has only

been a part-time visitor to the Bowl this season, but his

Freihofers-sponsored 115 small block is always the class of the field. In

addition to his two victories, Tremont also has two-second place finishes to

his credit. Four trips to the track, four top-two finishes. No wonder the

rest of the field hates to see him pull in.

Sunday night’s race marked the second week in a row that Tremont and Camara

have battled for the win. Two weeks ago, it was Camara who came out on top,

by a margin of 3.9 seconds. Last week, Tremont turned the tables, beating

Camara to the finish line by 2.044 seconds. Ray Hoard came across the line

third, his best finish of the season at the Bowl. Gene Munger, coming off a

Friday night victory at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, was fourth while Don

Ackner was fifth in the Sput Shaw-owned small block that has become Ackner’s

regular Sunday night ride. Completing the top 10 were Tim Laduc, Don

Mattison, Ron Proctor, Jim Ryan and Frank Hoard Sr.

One of the drivers who likes to see Tremont pull in is pro-stock driver Pete

Kimball. When Tremont won the modified feature on June 10, Kimball won the

pro-stock feature. On Sunday night, after Tremont made his trip to victory

lane, Kimball also came away with his second win of the season. Kimball

held off Fred Little, with Mike Paquin third. Joe Santoro, who failed to

qualify through his heat race, charged through the field to finish fourth,

while Mike Haines came across the finish line fifth.

Lori Cary finally ended her Vermont slump and picked up her first win of the

season in the 15-lap hobby stock feature. Cary became the second female to

record a victory at the Bowl, joining Carol Parker, a former track champion

in the support division. Cary had an easy night, finishing with a

1.18-second advantage over Ken Towne. Chuck Knowlton finished third. Cary

became the sixth different driver to win a feature in the hobby division in

seven events at the Bowl this season.

Chris Busta completed a successful weekend by winning the cruiser division

feature, adding that win to a victory he posted in the six-cylinder class

Friday night at Albany-Saratoga Speedway. Robert Cole was a distant second

Sunday night, with Jason Kerr third.

The powerful Empire Super Sprints will be making their only appearance of

the season at Devil’s Bowl on Sunday, Aug. 5., joining the regular CVRA

divisions. Racing will begin at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than usual.
