Ricci, Mele, Saxe, Schmidt, Schaffer Win at Lake Moc-A-Tek

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LAKE MOC-A-TEK SPEEDWAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLEASE

Saturday night racing action at the Lake Moc-A-Tek Speedway found

some familiar faces in victory lane as defending track champions Mike

Ricci and Ralph Mele picked up wins in the 358 Modified and Sportsman

divisions. Terry Schaffer won his third Micro Sprint feature of the

season with Floyd Schmidt winning his second Pure Stock feature. The

Street Stocks saw a first time winner as Bill Saxe picked up the feature

event win.

Ricci's victory in the 358 Modified feature was his fourth of the

season aboard his Gen Plus/Apple Greens Golf Course sponsored #76 Teo Pro

Car. Mike started deep in the field but a series of early caution flags

kept the field bunched up and allowed Mike to quickly work his way into

contention. It took only 10 laps for Mike to take the lead, going from

first to third with a daring double pass to the inside of both Everett

Haubrich and John Leiby to take over the top spot. . Once out front,

Mike was never seriously challenged despite a late race caution that put

Haubrich right on his tail. Mike was able to control the restart and

drive on to victory. Haubrich scored his best ever finish at Lake

Moc-A-Tek crossing the line in second. Bill Grammes, Dom Roselli, and

Tom Rudalavage complete the top ten. Nick Barassi, Gary Griffin, John

Leiby, Russ Strausser, and Brian Malcolm made up the remainder of the top

ten finishing order.

The Sportsman feature saw defending track champion and current point

leader Ralph Mele take another step toward the 2001 title, winning his

fifth feature of the season aboard his Co-Fab sponsored #711. Much like

Ricci did in the 358 Modified event, Mele was handicapped near the rear

of the starting field, but was able to take advantage of several caution

flags in the early going to move toward the front. Mele made the winning

pass just past the halfway point as he took the top spot away from Kevin

Kresge. Once out front, Ralph had things pretty much his way as he was

never challenged for the top spot the rest of the way. Behind Mele,

Buddy Altemose had his best ever finish at Lake Moc-A-Tek, coming home

second with rookie Kevin Kresge also having his best ever run with a

third place effort. Mike Schane and Alex Knopka completed the top five.

Tom Laner Jr. and Mike Marold recovered from early race incidents to

finish sixth and seventh respectively with Bob Grammes, Chris Clemmons,

and Mike Mondak completing the top ten.

Bill Saxe picked up his first career victory in the Street Stock

feature as he wheeled his Lowe's Performance sponsored #20s to victory.

The win was a hard-earned victory for Saxxe, as he was uder heavy

pressure from defending track champion Mike Loney in the late stages of

the event. Loney pressured Saxe all the way, but Bill was up to the

challenge as he never wavered from his groove despite tremendous pressure

from Loney. Saxe held Loney off to pick up the win with Loney crossing

the line in second. Neil DiBlasi, Joe Krisovich, and Adam Jones

completed the top five. Finishing in positions six through ten were

Kevin Simko, Mike Malloy, Jim Hughes Jr., Ed Kudrako, and Jerry Liford.

Floyd Schmidt wheeled his Schmidt's Tree Service sponsored #18 to

his second victory of the season in the Pure Stock feature. Schmidt

pulled off a late race pass of Andy Belles to take the top spot and the

victory. Belles finished second ahead of Nate Evans. Franklin Bush was

the highest finishing Four Cylinder car in fourth with Todd Hotaling

completing the top five. Michael Lartz placed sixth in only his second

Lake Moc-A-Tek start with Ron Blake, Gary Scotch, George Ippolito and Ira

Landrum completing the top ten.

Terry Schaffer won his third 250cc Micro Sprint feature of the

season. The builder and designer of the RTS chassis received an

unexpectedly strong challenge from Micro Sprint rookie Greg Stevens, who

battled Schaffer for several laps before Terry was able to take over the

top spot. Stevens kept the pressure on Schaffer over the remaining laps,

earning his best ever Lake Moc-A-Tek finish crossing the line just a

scant few feet behind winner Schaffer. Kevin Nolf, Ralph Utter, and

Davey Franek completed the top five. Don Colaluce, Rich McKay, Todd

Hanlon, Alan Shiffler, and Darrell Cobb completed the top ten.
