Rudalavage, Stone Take Checkered Flags At Penn Can

SUSQUEHANNA PA =AD Alan Rudalavage won the Modified feature at Penn Can

Speedway on Friday Night. Dan Stone, Dan Vauter, Jeff Cleveland, and

Bob Chapman also took home dramatic victories on a unusually cool July

night.

Chris Shupp, starting on the outside pole took a commanding lead

early

in the Modified feature event. He was pulling away form the pack behind

him, when Rudalavage made his move. Within five laps, Rudalavage was on

Shupp's rear bumper and on lap 15, he pulled to the inside of Shupp for

the race-winning pass. Racing through the pack was exciting as cars raced

for position all at all corners of the speedway. Rudalavage went on to win

his first win of the season. Mike Nagel also made his way around Shupp for

the second place

and Mike Colsten followed with a third pale finish. Shupp wound up

fourth and Jim Witko Sr. finished out the top five.

The Late Model feature was dominated once again by Dan Stone. It

took

Stone two laps to pass seven competitors and take the lead in the

feature. Alan Coy was as close as anyone could get him, thus he

finished in second. Bill Marvin, driving the Gary Dyer owned machine,

finished in third followed by Gene Sharpsteen and Dave Passetti. The win by

Stone was his fifth in a row at Penn Can and his sixth overall at the

speedway.

The Street Stock Feature was capped off by a dramatic win for a

rookie driver. Dan Vauter, in his first year of competitive racing

action, started on the pole and led the entire race en route to victory.

He drove the low groove, while veterans Scott Conover and Jamie=20 Shea

tried to pass him on the outside. Neither one of them could produce the

needed power to pass Vauter. Conover edged out Shea for second, while

Chris Piasecki finished in fourth and Rich Keehle wound up fifth.

The Pure Stock Feature showed Jeff Cleveland another win in his

sterling season. Cleveland took the lead on lap 2 when Eric Pribula

drifted high enabling Cleveland to scoot by on the inside. Darryl Ellis

came home in second followed by Ken Sparks, Chad Stone and Brian Decker.

The IMCA feature was won by Bob Chapman, who inherited the lead

from Paul Rooney on lap two and went on to win his first win of the

season. Great racing action took place throughout the field with the finish

being one of the closest for the IMCA modifieds. Steve Hartman came home in

second, followed by Mike Stoddard, Cory Fachini, and Mike Bungay.

PENN NOTES: The ELS Sprint cars are on the schedule for next Friday. A full

field is expected. URC regular, George Suprick of Clarks Summit, has

Howard Singer of Lisle, New York, and Bill Bailey of Sayre. The entire night

of racing will be sponsored by People=92s National Bank. The third round of
