Vince Quenneville Jr.Big Winner At Devils Bowl Speedway On The
Devil's Bowl Speedway - Results for July 4, 2000
WEST HAVEN, Vt. - Some people celebrate the 4th of July holiday with a
picnic and fireworks. Vince Quenneville Jr. celebrated with a $3,000
victory. Quenneville took advantage of some bad luck by invader Ronnie
Holmes Tuesday night to win the special 100-lap 4th of July race at Devil’s
Bowl Speedway.
Quenneville, who had started eighth, stalked Holmes, who had drawn the
pole, after the Vermont driver moved into the number two position on the
72nd lap. But Holmes, driving the Andy’s Service-sponsored small block
owned by Andy Romano, tangled with a lapped car on lap 87 and hit the wall,
ending his night. That gave the lead to Quenneville, who stayed out front
the rest of the way to get his second victory of the season at the speedway.
Only five cars finished on the lead lap, with Dave Camara second, Jim Ryan
third, Frank Hoard Jr. fourth and Bob Savoie fifth.
Ryan covered the most ground, as he started 13th. Holmes was able to put
most of the field a lap down early, as the first 62 laps were run without a
caution. Savoie shadowed Holmes for most of the race, but his tires went
away late in the feature, and he could no longer keep up with the leaders.
Ryan took advantage of two late restarts to climb into the top five. He was
running ninth with 15 laps left, but used the two caution periods to make a
late charge. Completing the top 10 were Gene Munger, Don Scarborough, Tim
Clemons, Ron Proctor and Don Mattison. Clemons was making his first
appearance of the season at the Bowl in the Jake Spraker-owned small block.
Pete Kimball jumped into the lead on lap 14 and went on to win the
50-lap pro-street stock feature. Kimball, who had started third in the
20-car field, took the lead away from Phil Sherman and went on to get the
win. Dan Madigan finished second, and Fred Little crossed the finish line
third. But Little was then disqualified for having an illegal engine part.
That put Joe Santoro third, with Sherman fourth and Matt Rich fifth.
Mike Ostrander took advantage on his front-row starting position to win
the 25-lap hobby stock feature and Jeff Monroe charged from the fourth row
to win the 25-lap cruiser division feature.
