Results for SKOAL Series for Tuesday, August 19, 1997:
Hogansburg, NY...Kenny Tremont of West Sand Lake, New York triumphed
in the 7th race of the SKOAL 358 modified series over a field of 47
cars on Tuesday, August 19th at Frogtown International Speedway.
Tremont drew the pole position and kept his Doherty Brothers - Gable
Motorsports Troyer at the lead for every lap of the 97 lap event. He
started off the night by setting a new track record of 15.9 seconds
during his heat race.
Danny O'Brien of Kingston, Ontario drew the outside pole position and
stayed with Tremont until he got caught in lapped traffic on lap 14
allowing Alan Johnson to take over. The second caution of the event
came on lap 18 when Mike Perrotte stopped on turn 4 and made his way
to the pits. Danny Johnson took over third from Dan O'Brien following
the restart. The next lap saw Tremont holding off the Johnsons 3 wide
on the front stretch.
Brett Hearn made his way up from 10th starting spot to move past
Danny O'Brien with a move to the oustide on lap 21. He kept the pedal
down and took over third by lap 26. He slowly slipped back down
stopping on the backstretch on the third restart and packed it up for
the night. Danny Johnson took over second on lap 33 but lost it again
on lap 63 when Alan went low. Pete Bicknell worked his way through
the field from 20th to take over 4th on that same lap. Danny O'Brien
finished the night in 5th.
Hard charger award went to Steve Paine who started 26th and finished
9th. Massena's Kevin Fetterly won the Syracuse Qualifier spot with
his 8th place finish. Fetterly will represent Frogtown Speedway at
Super Dirt Week this fall.
Late model driver Eric Gavreau's claimed his first victory at
Frogtown. He started third and moved his way up to the lead by the
first lap winning a 3 wide race in the front stretch. Mark Therrien
held on to second until he slowed on lap 13 and Dave Bissonnette took
over. John Green started and finished third.
Jody Swamp claimed his 4th novice victory of the season with a flag
to flag win in the Novice division. Brian Moulton edged out points
leader Joel Herne by a bumper at the finish to take second.
Lee Ladoceur topped the largest field of Rookie drivers this season.
Ladoceur started fifth out of eight cars and took over the lead by
the first lap. Simon Marcoux followed the same inside line and
managed a second place finish. Leo McPhee in his first appearance at
Frogtown this season finished third.
Regular Saturday evening racing scheduled for August 23 was rained
out. The final regular race of the season will be held on Saturday,
August 30, 1997 featuring a 50 lap championship for the modifieds and
double points for all other classes. Mini Pines and White Pines
sponsor the evenings events starting at 7:30 pm.
