FONDA WIN, A SNAP FOR DWYER Palmer, Kowalczyk and Burega also take checkers.

Saturday, July 26

Fonda, NY- Tim Dwyer of Gloversville, NY picked up win number one on the season with what

first looked like a run away victory in the 30 lap modified event at the New Fonda Speedway

on Snap-On Tools Hall of Fame Night.

Snap-On Tools, Hall of Fame Night at the New Fonda Speedway proved to be a special night

for the Dwyer's. Tim recorded win number one on the season and his father Paul was inducted

into the Hall of Fame along with C. D. Coville, Jerry Barnowski and Lee and Tony Achzet,

earlier in the evening.

The #122 of Billy Gray and the #21J of Jeff Trombley brought out the first caution of

the 30 lap modified event when the two ended up stopped in turn two. Both were towed to the

pits after the incident. Mike Romano driving a Pete Bicknell #42 358 mod, spun to avoid Gray

and Trombley but made a quick recovery and continued.

When the green flag fell again a quick caution came out for Mike Ciaravino's Ghetto #28

stopped in turn four. Once again the green fell and Tim Dwyer took the lead with Ken Hanson

and Brian Purdy, the original pole sitters, close behind. By lap four Dwyer had the #5 of A.

J. Romano on his bumper with Hanson and Purdy still in the mix behind them.

The next few laps saw the #15 of Randy Snyder making a move to the fourth spot. Also on

the move was Mike Romano in the #42 and the Camara Slate #26 and the Dutchess Overhead Door

#87 of Dave Camara and Jack Johnson.

By lap ten Dwyer had a full straight away lead over second place runner A. J. Romano.

Brother Mike was now in third spot battling with A. J. for second.

Lap 12 saw Dwyer catch lap traffic giving the Romano's, Camara and Johnson a chance to

challenge.

With only five laps to go Dwyer found himself caught behind the lap car of Hector

Stratton's #87. This allowed Mike and A. J. to catch the front runner, Dwyer. The

tension was building as, Mike Romano, now sitting in second, moved closer and closer while

Dwyer tried to maneuver his way around Stratton. Finally, with only one lap left, Dwyer got

by Stratton and moved away toward the checker and his first win of the season. Dwyer was

followed by Mike Romano, A. J. Romano, Dave Camara and Jack Johnson.

Modified heat winners: K. Hanson, R. Zemken, J. Johnson. Consi winner: B. Sitterly

Alton Palmer of Howes Cave moved into the top spot on lap eight of the 20 lap sportsman

feature and continued on to record win number three on the season. The win gave Palmer a one

point lead in points over Brian Borst who finished fifth.

By avoiding the four yellow flags during the 20 lap event, Palmer pulled into the lead

on lap eight when he got by Joe Rano. Jeff Holt had his #32 in a position to challenge

Palmer by lap 13 but came up short at the checker. Ron Constantino and Bob Vedder where in a

heated battle for third, with Vedder getting the position with five laps to go. After the

final caution on lap eleven Borst who then sat sixth, positioned the Interstate Auto #69 for

a side by side battled with Dave Rosa's #61 for the fifth spot.

Palmer was followed by Holt, Vedder, R. Constantino, and Borst.

Sportsman heat wins went to A. Palmer, M. Fraiser, J. McAuliffe with the consolation event to

J. Baker.

Only one lap was complete in the street stock event before the cautions began to fly.

One caution ended with Bryan Peters on his way to the hospital after he parked his #69 on the

backstretch wall. A report at the end of the night was that he suffered a dislocated

shoulder.

Tony Johnson rolled his #24J on lap six for the final caution of the 20 lap event. Jeff

Jones took the lead on the restart and then was in a heated side by side battle with the #14

of Ram Kowalczyk for the lead for the next 14 laps.

At the end, Jones took the checker, but Kowalczyk was awarded the win when Jones was set

down four spots for passing cars before the green.

Street Stock heat winners were F. Twing, D. Viall, J. Burton and the consi win went to M.

Sullivan.

In pure stock action Steve Burega of Latham went three for three at the New Fonda

Speedway. After an early race caution when the #5 of Terry Mudge spun and wound up in the

wall on the front stretch, the restart saw Burega take the lead under the flag stand as he

weaved his way through the front running cars.
