CAMARA, MCAULIFFE, MARTIN AND BUREGA TAKE FONDA CHECKERS

Saturday, July 19

Fonda, NY- Dave Camara of Poultney, Vt. avoided three early cautions and

out powered the #87 of Jack Johnson to stay in the lead for 24 laps of

the 30 lap modified feature to picked up win number three of the season

at the "New" Fonda Speedway.

Tony Pepicelli led the field to the green over Ron Proctor who

started second. Pepicelli looked strong as he quickly pulled away from

the field.

The first caution came on lap three when the #66 of Don Bellen

slowed on the front stretch. Pepicelli easily maintained his lead on the

restart, but the #15 of Randy Snyder was on the move, working the inside

of the track. After a caution that saw the Romano #97 and the Gray #122

come together, Snyder had his front bumper along side of Pepicelli. The

two raced side by side until the yellow again flew on lap six.

The #26 was hooked up and Camara who started 16th had weaved his

way through traffic to be among the front running cars. The top cars

scrambled for the lead on the restart and by the time they had completed

a lap, Dave Camara had put the Camara Slate #26 at the front.

A strong battled ensued between the #1A of Tim Dwyer and the #52 of

Proctor for the sixth place spot. Midway through the pack Tim Clemons,

A. J. Romano and Seth Gano were intently involved in a race for eighth.

Camara remained on the point with the strong challenge coming from

Jack Johnson in the Dutchess Overhead Door #87. Johnson stayed close to

Camara and when Dave ran into lap traffic, Johnson was able to pull along

side, but the driver of the Camara Slate #26 was able to stay ahead of

the veteran. Camara was followed by Johnson, Pepicelli, Snyder and Hoard.

Modified heat wins went to T. Pepicelli, J. Trombley and R. Snyder.

John McAuliffe of Rexford, NY recorded his first win of the season

in the sportsman 20 lap feature. Harry Shaffer put his #1H in the lead

and avoided two yellow flags before McAuliffe took over on lap ten.

The yellow flag flew on the first lap when a multi-car incident in

turn two collected a number of cars from the middle of the starting line

up. Current point leader, Brian Borst in the Interstate Auto #69, along

with Drew Fallis #T31 and Jason Otty #7J were towed to the pits. Others

involved were, Kris Ferrara, Jeff Lutes, and Tony Farone.

On the restart Shaffer pulled way with the #82 of Steve Davis, the

#17L of John LeClair and the #32 of Jeff Holt hot on his trail.

A second caution came on lap four for the #32 of Jeff Holt who was

in the runner up spot at the time. Once again on the restart, Shaffer

maintained the lead, but by this time McAuliffe had put the McAuliffe

Trucking #23 in third and was ready for his run for the lead.

Alton Palmer and Dave Rosa were steadily making their way to the

front but ran out of laps for a challenge for the lead. McAuliffe led

Shaffer, Palmer, LeClair and Rosa to the line.

Sportsman heat winners were R. Constantino, J. Rando and H. Shaffer.

After an intense battle with Bryan Peters in the #69, Kenny Martin

took the lead on lap 15 with a move to the high side in turns three and

four. Martin was able to pull away for a time but Peters didn't give up

and hung in for the runner up spot. Last weeks winner Kenny Gates was

third, Jim Burton, fourth and Phlan Hart came back after his accident two

weeks ago with a strong fifth place finish.

Street Stock heat winners were K. Gates, S. Welch and R. Kowalczyk

After a roll over on lap eight by the #97 of Rocky Warner, last

weeks winner, Steve Burega of Latham, NY grabbed the lead on the restart

and held on for the remaining three laps to sit in victory lane once

again this week.

The Enduro win went to Dave Horning, Sr. of Bleeker, NY
