HEARN IN SEVENTH HEAVEN AT LEBANON VALLEY
WEST LEBANON, NY - 7/19/97...Brett Hearn continued his domination
of the modifieds at Lebanon Valley. Saturday night he
took home the win in the 30-lap modified feature. It was
his seventh win of the year at the valley. Chris Kokosa
won the 20-lap sportsman feature. Adam Haas took home
the win in the street stocks. All the action took place
on Rifenburg Construction Night.
When the green flag dropped the Rifenburg
sponsored car of Donnie Corellis took the lead. Brett
Hearn would be on the charge early. Hearn started 15th
and was up to tenth by the second lap. John Hewitt would
grab second as the top two cars tried to pull away from
the feild. Great action on lap six for posistions six on
back. Rich Ricci looked like a contender early on,
taking fifth by lap nine
Corellis continued to hold a five car lead over
second place Hewitt. Hearn took fourth away on lap 18. A
caution would group the feild back together on lap 19.
The restart would see Hearn grab third then second, as
he set his sights on the front running Corellis.
Corellis and Hearn would race side by side for the lead
for several laps. Hearn was finally able to take the top
spot on lap 27. He would cruise home to his seventh win
of the season by twenty car lengths over second place,
Corellis. John Hewitt premiered his brand new paint
scheme and his new Teo chassis with a fine third place
performance. J.R. Hefner had a great run finishing
fourth and Rich Ricci rounded out the top five.
Wes Powell would grab the lead on the first lap
of the 20-lap sportsman feature. He would lose the lead
on lap two to the #3 of Tony LaPorta. Bobby Chalmers
took second on lap three. The top three pulled away from
the rest of the feild by lap four. Chalmers would
challange LaPorta for first on lap five. Chris Kokosa
would find himself in contention, taking third on lap
six.
The top three would go three wide for the lead
just before the yellow flag on lap nine. The restart
would see Atr Collins take over the second spot. Last
weeks winner Jeff Cassidy would find himself battling
Hawley Smith for fifth on lap 11. Kokosa would take
second spot back on lap 14 and wouldcatch LaPorta by
lap 17. The two would battle hard for the top spot,
swapping the lead several times. The yellow falg would
wave on lap 19 setting up a great one lap battle for the
win. Kokosa took the lead from LaPotra going into turn
one on the final lap. LaPorta would take it back going
down the backstraight, but he carried too much speed
into the third turn. Kokosa scooted underneath and came
away with the win.
Jim Langenback looked to have the street stock
feature in the palm of his hand. He took the lead from
early race laeder Rich Crane on lap seven. Todd
Goldstein had a fine run going, he got up to third
before mechanical failure finished him on lap 14. Dave
Streibel would take third by lap 16. Adam Haas would
grab third on lap 16. Haas would take second spot just
before the caution falg came out on lap 17. Langenback
would suffer a flat tire on the restart forcing him
pitside. Haas would inherit the lead and the win.
Donnie Denue took home the win in the 20-lap
IMCA Modified feature.
