JOHNSON AND BORST SCORE SECOND WIN OF SEASON AT FONDA

Fonda, NY- "Jumpin" Jack made it two on his season at Fonda when he was able to make his way past Dave Camara on a restart, during the 30 lap feature on NAPA Night at the "Track of Champions."

Johnson said "the car was going away in the final laps and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to hang on."

The top point men in the modified division started deep in the field and quickly worked their way to the top ten.

NAPA Night brought the Budka owned #64 NAPA sponsored car driven by Bob Savoie to the track and Savoie was running with the top ten until he spun on lap 14 and collected the #11J of Chris Jones of Canada, forcing both cars to the pit.

By lap fifteen Johnson, Camara, Dwyer, Romano and Trombley were battling with the veteran Harry Peek who was having one of his best runs. Peek went wide in turn four to avoid the 24m of Doug Mosall and lost several spots. Rookie Billy Gray who was also in contention for the lead continued to challenge the leaders until lap 18 when he tapped the front stretch wall and also lost a few spots to the front runners.

By the final few laps the top three, Johnson, Camara and Romano had pulled away from the rest of the field and laps the second group of runners, Dwyer, Trombley, Gray, and Ciaravino had gained on the leaders.

The winningest driver at Fonda had all he could do to keep the Camara Slate #26 behind him for the final laps. Point leader Mike Romano was also on the bumper of the #87 Dutchess Overhead Door car when he came across the stripe.

In sportsman action, Brian Borst of Schoharie recorded his second win on the season and his 11th overall at Fonda.

Four cautions flags flew before two laps could be turned in the 20 lap sportsman event, but when the cars finally got sorted out the race ran smooth. Tony Farone put his #18 in the lead until lap five when Borst took over on the backstretch. By this time point leader, Alton Palmer was in 3rd. On lap 7, Palmer went around Farone and the race was on for the two current point leaders. Borst was able to pull away until lap 16 when Palmer caught the #69 of Borst and the two ran side by side. With only two laps to go, Borst went high in turn four, and tapped Palmer. Palmer was able to recover and maintain the runner up spot behind Borst.

Kenny Martin of Sprakers, made it 4 wins on the season in street stock action. Martin has been the dominant competitor this year and Saturday night was not exception. Martin took the lead on lap 7 and was challenged the next few laps by Sullivan, Normoyle, Lighthall and Noviczski, but to no avail and the win went to Martin.

The IMCA mods made their first trip to Fonda on Saturday and made quite an impression on the local fans. Henry Tanner picked up the win and now holds the distinction of being the first every IMCA winner at Fonda.

This Saturday, along with their regular show, Fonda will host the 358 mods for a 25 lap qualifier for the PROLONG 358 Mod Championship at Syracuse in October.
