McCREADIE TAKES WEEDSPORT WIN
WEEDSPORT, NY.6/15/97…...Bob McCreadie has had an excellent last four days, winning three of his six 1997 mod features including the inaugural Skoal Racing sm Super DIRT Series race from Susquehanna. At the Cayuga County Fair Speedway last Sunday he picked up his first "Port" win of the year. Vince Vitale earned his second sportsman victory at Cayuga County and Shawn Lias returned to grab the special IMCA Modified feature. Ray Bliss Jr. took advantage of his up front starting position and grabbed the early lead in the 35-lap DIRT Modified main event. He was being hounded by both Chuck Bower and Jimmy Phelps, but neither could get past for the lead. The second lap saw the yellow fly when Darryl Ruggles came to a stop in the fourth turn. Bliss maintained his lead, but again the yellow flew when Tom Sears Jr. lost a rear end and coasted to a stop in the second turn. This restart saw Phelps get by Bliss for the lead. Yet again the yellow flew after one lap when Bobby Varin, Steve Paine and Dave Camara tangled in the second turn. Pat Ward now was able to pass Phelps for the lead with a patented outside move coming out of the second turn. Now near the front was Bob McCreadie. He too passed Phelps and took over second on lap nine. On lap 13 the yellow flew when Jiff Sakes came to a stop in the third turn. McCreadie was now able to take the lead from ward and blast out to a full straight away advantage over the closing laps. Ward held on for second, with Alan Johnson taking third. Joe Plazek and Gary Tomkins rounded out the top five. Vince Viatle won the 20-lap sportsman feature in a green-to- checkers run. Mike Button stayed second all race, with Tim Sears running in third. Jason Barney was able to pass both Steve Hall and Tim Sears to finish in third. Hall come home in fourth and Sears wound up in fifth.
