FULLER WINS SECOND EVER AT CAYUGA COUNTY
WEEDSPORT, NY..6/8/97...Tim Fuller has waited quite a long time to
return to the Cayuga County Fair victory lane. His last win came
at the speedway on July 2, 1995. Now two years later and a winter
trip to Australia, Fuller returned to the winner's circle last
Sunday with a two car length win over veteran Bob McCreadie. In
the Sportsman division Jason Barney took home the laurels, as did
Troy VanAllen in a special 15-lap Dwarf Car feature.
Ray Bliss jr. was able to take the lead at the drop of the
green with Chuck Bower tight on his heels. Todd Milton in third
was not content to remain where he was , so with a valiant move
he took second from Bower. On lap four the yellow flew when Bobby
varin slapped the fourth turn wall sideways and slowed on the
back stretch. As the field slowed, Milton spun in the second turn
and returned to the race at the back of the field.
When the green flew again Pat Ward worked his way passed
Bliss for the lead, only to see the yellow fly again as Jimmy
Phelps found himself sitting cross ways on the track in the
second turn. Ward's challenger now was Tim Fuller and Billy
Decker. Decker had been making a hard charge towards the front.
On lap eight Fuller cruised into the lead with Decker quick to
follow his lead, passing ward for second. Suddenly the number 84
came to a stop on the front chute, bringing out yet another
yellow.
Decker charged into the lead on the restart as Bob McCreadie
joined in the top three battle. Alan Johnson, who had worked his
way towards the front had to be sent to the pits, under yellow,
to remove a rear bumper that was hanging by just two supports. He
quickly returned at the back of the field, but now out of
contention.
Decker led Fuller and McCreadie into lapped traffic on lap
22. Decker became trapped behind the Ray Bliss Jr. number Z, as
Fuller ducked low into the third turn, taking the lead. McCreadie
followed suit taking second as Decker remained trapped. Joe
Plazek now entered the fray, passing Decker for third. The field
began it's charge to the finish line. Fuller took the victory
followed by McCreadie, Plazek, Decker and Scott Prentice.
In sportsman racing action Jason Barney won his first of the
year at Cayuga County, second career win at the speedway. The
feature was slowed by just one yellow, coming on lap 13 of 20.
Barney took the lead on lap 11 from Scott Ridley. Ridley came
home in second followed by Jim Gabriel Jr., Mike Button and Karl
Comfort.
Troy VanAllen took the win after grabbing the lead on a lap
seven restart. VanAllen saw his right rear tire go flat in
victory lane. The Dwarf cars return to Cayuga County on Sunday,
August 17.
The Enduro win went to Tom Juhl followed by John Whiteford
and John Juhl. Both second and third finished one lap down to the
leader.
Racing returns to the semi-high banks at Cayuga County this
Sunday starting at 7 p.m.. On the card will be Modifieds,
Sportsman, Enduro and IMCA races.
