BRIGHTBILL AND DMUCHOWSKI WIN EAST WINDSOR MODIFIED TWIN MAIN EVENTS FRIDAY NIGHT
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Defending East Windsor Speedway Small-Block Modified champion Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Springs, Pa. won his ninth main event of the year and fan favorite Fred Dmuchowski of Neshanic Station won his first feature in five years during twin 20-lap main event action at the East Windsor Speedway Friday night.
In the first Small-Block Modified 20-lapper Freehold's Eddie Bohn took the lead early while Brightbill charged through the pack. Brightbill caught Bohn on lap 11 and then charged into the lead and on to the win. Bohn held the runner-up spot and Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. was third. Brian Jones of East Windsor just beat out Jimmy Horton of Whitehouse Station for fourth at the finish line.
Nearly five years to the day from his last victory, Dmuchowski raced to his 26th career win. Dmuchowski, who has raced every year at the speedway since it opened, raced to the front on lap 12 and then held off the charges of Brightbill and Hoffman in the late going. Lawrenceville's Wade Hendrickson and Tim Tanner, Jr. of Ivyland, Pa. completed the top five.
Art Bifulco of Monmouth Junction raced to victory in the companion 15-lapper for the Street Stocks. Jack Zeiner of Nazareth, Pa. was a close second at the finish, while Pete Fogerty of Levittown, Pa., Hamilton's Kim Cooke and Wayne Hansen of Somerset wrapped up the top five.
Donny Radd of Edison took the lead early and then drove to victory in the 15-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Stan Ploski and Ryan Godown, both of Ringoes, were second and third, while Art Leidl of Somerville and New Egypt's Ron Jon Koczon were fourth and fifth.
This Friday night (September 10) is "Dick Craig's Banner Night" at the speedway. During intermission time banners will be paraded down the front stretch while a host of judges pick the best in several categories. On the race track, the Small-Block Modifieds will battle in a 25-lap main event, while Sportsman and Street Stock racers compete in 15-lappers. Practice starts at 7:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30. Looking ahead, the point races conclude on September 17 with the annual running of the Hoosier Tire 100.
The 1999 schedule shows that the regular Friday night series will continue weekly through early-October with open competition racing. Details are available at the speedway hotlines at 732-521-0915 or 609-448-8510 or the website at www.ewspeedway.com.
