BRIGHTBILL WINS EIGHTH EAST WINDSOR MODIFIED MAIN EVENT -- REGAINS POINT LEAD FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Defending East Windsor Speedway Small-Block Modified champion Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Springs, Pa. won his eighth main event of the year Friday night in the Len Sammons, Jr. Memorial. The victory also moved Brightbill back into the point lead over the tenth place finishing Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville.

Bridgewater's Art Taylor was the first leader of the 25-lap contest before Neshanic Station's Fred Dmuchowski moved to the front on the fifth lap. Dmuchowski stretched an impressive lead through the middle stages of the contest, while Brightbill completed his march through the pack and into second spot.

Late race caution flags bunched the field and offered Brightbill his chance to take the lead. After several stabs at Dmuchowski, Brightbill finally ran into the lead on a late-race restart and then raced to the win. Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa., Ricky Elliott, Seaford, De. and Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station completed the top five.

Barry Christ of Piscataway had a large segment of the fans cheering as he drove to his first ever East Windsor Speedway Sportsman stock car win. John Oliver of Flemington was the runner-up, while early race leader Charlie Gunther of Hightstown was third. Chuck Flesch of Hamilton and Somerville's Art Liedl, Jr. completed the top five.

Craig Martin of Trenton won his first 15-lap Street Stock main event since returning from a long hiatus earlier this season. Dave Brymer of Titusville and early race leader Joe Garey of Flemington, who were locked in a battle for the lead for most of the race, were second and third. The returning Carol Whitehouse of Hamilton, who sat for several weeks after a racing related injury, and Kevin Bifulco of Monmouth Junction wrapped up the top five.

This Friday night (August 20) is "Dick Craig's Banner Night" at the speedway. During intermission time banners will be paraded down the front stretch while Craig, a popular local television personality, and a host of judges, pick the best in several categories.

On the race track, the Small-Block Modifieds will battle in a 25-lap main event, while Sportsman and Street Stock racers compete in 15-lappers. Practice starts at 7:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30. Looking ahead, fans will be in the spotlight during the annual "Banner Night" festivities on Friday night, August 27.

The 1999 schedule shows that the regular Friday night series will continue weekly through early-October. However, the Tuesday night, August 24, special has been canceled. Details are available at the speedway hotlines at 732-521-0915 or 609-448-8510 or the website at www.ewspeedway.com.
