KENNY BRIGHTBILL GRABS FOURTH SMALL-BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Defending Small-Block Modified champion Kenny Brightbill does not lead the point standings at present. Still, the Sinking Spring, Pa. veteran proved Friday night that he wants another driving crown as he won his fourth 25-lap main event of the year in impressive fashion at the East Windsor Speedway.
Kevin Hirthler of Green Lane, Pa. was the initial leader of the contest, but Brightbill was wasting little time in getting through the pack. After starting deep in the field, Brightbill arrived in third by lap seven, advanced to second by the eighth lap and then overtook Hirthler for the lead on lap nine. Only one caution slowed the pace from that point on making it a frantic contest to the finish.
Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station was the runner-up at the checker flag, while point leader Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville held his position by finishing third. Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. and Frenchtown's Billy Pauch were fourth and fifth.
Kim Cooke of Hamilton raced to his second 15-lap win in the Street Stock division. Cooke got by early leader Carol Whitehouse of Hamilton on the tenth lap. Flemington's Joe Garey was third, while Larry Bubeck of New Hope, Pa. and Monmouth Junction's Art Bifulco were fourth and fifth.
Donny Radd of Edison wrestled the win away from Ringoes' Stan Ploski,III in the Sportsman 15-lapper. Robbinsville's Buck ward was a tight third, while Gary Hager of Stewartsville and Scott Flammer of West Milford wrapped up the top five.
This Friday night (July 16) the Small-Block Modifieds battle in a 25-lap main, while Sportsman and Street Stock racers compete in 15-lappers. In addition, the speedway presents the annual "Kids' Big Wheel Races" during intermission. Practice starts at 7:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30.
