WADE HENDRICKSON GRABS FIRST WIN OF YEAR AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY
FRIDAY NIGHT
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville charged from 12th spot in the Small-Block Modified main event Friday night and then raced on to his first victory of the year at the East Windsor Speedway. The score in the Kramer Performance Engines 25 was the 13th of Hendrickson's career.
Mike Franz of Paulsboro led the first nine laps, before Piscataway's Pete Telesco took control. Hendrickson was wrapping up his run to the front at that time as he soon moved in to challenge before making his winning move on the 19th circuit. Hendrickson was not alone, however, as point leader Jimmy Horton charged into second and taunted Hendrickson to the finish line.
Lebanon's Darren McCaughey was third, while Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa. and Telesco completed the top five.
The ageless Rich Cass, Sr. of Hightstown finally got the handle on his first brand new car in years and drove to an impressive win in the companion 15-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Donny Radd of Edison was forced to settle for second, while new father Bryan Godown of Ringoes was third. Keith Foster of Penndel, Pa. and Flemington's John Oliver were fourth and fifth.
The Street Stock 15-lapper saw the top five cars dice for position most of the way. At the checker flag defending champ Dave Brymer of Titusville bagged his second win of the young season over Hamilton's Kim Cooke and Waterford's Bill Gerber. Jack Zeiner of Nazareth, Pa. and Hamilton's Carol Whitehouse wrapped up the top five.
The East Windsor Speedway features the Small-Block Modifieds in a 25-lapper, plus Sportsman and Street Stock racers in 15-lappers this Friday evening (June 4) at 7:30 p.m. The 1999 schedule shows that the regular Friday night series will continue weekly through early-October. Several non-Friday evening events are also on the slate. The first is the annual "Fireworks Spectacular" on Sunday evening, July 4.
