JIMMY HORTON DEFENDS TITLE IN BILL NICHOLS MEMORIAL 50 AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Point leader Jimmy Horton of Whitehouse Station was thankful for a late race caution as he caught leader Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. and then raced on to win his second

straight Bill Nichols Memorial 50 at the East Windsor Speedway Friday night. It was Horton's fourth win of the year.

Hoffman took the lead of the 24 car field by the time seven laps were in the books. The laps then clicked off with a caution for well over 20 circuits allowing Hoffman to stretch his advantage as Horton completed his run through the field to second. With just ten laps remaining the yellows waved and bunched the field.

This allowed Horton to move to Hoffman's bumper before he dove to the inside to take the lead exiting turn four on lap 41.

Horton then led Hoffman to the line, while Kenny Brightbill and Doug Manmiller, both of Sinking Spring, Pa., were third and fourth. Lawrenceville's Wade Hendrickson was fifth.

Edison's Donny Radd took the lead on lap five the Sportsman main event and then raced home to his initial victory of the year. Stan Ploski, III of Ringoes and Robbinsville's Buck Ward chased him most of the way for second and third, while Gary Hager of Stewartsville and Somerville's Art Leidel were fourth and fifth.

The Street Stock 15-lapper was a thriller with Jack Zeiner, Jr. of Nazareth, Pa. making his winning move on lap 11. Waterford's Bill Gerber was second at the checker, while Kim Cooke and Carol Whitehouse, both of Hamilton, and Monmouth Junction's Art Bifulco completed the tight top five.

The East Windsor Speedway features the Small-Block Modifieds in a 25-lapper, plus Sportsman and Street Stock racers in 15-lappers this Friday evening (May 28) at 7:30 p.m. The 1999 schedule

shows that the regular Friday night series will continue weekly through early-October. Several non-Friday evening events are also on the slate. The first is the annual "Fireworks Spectacular" on Sunday evening, July 4.

Details can also be obtained by calling the speedway hotlines at 732-521-0915 or 609-448-8510 or visiting the website at www.ewspeedway.com.
