JIMMY HORTON IS AWESOME IN MODIFIED FEATURE WIN AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Defending Modified stock car driving champ Jimmy Horton

was nothing short of awe inspiring Friday night in winning the 25-lap main

event at the East Windsor Speedway. The Neshanic Station veteran was forced

to the pit are a early in the event and then returned to race from the rear

of the 25 car field to take the win.

Mike Johnston of Franklin Park led the first two laps before former champ

Fred Dmuchowski of Neshanic Station took command. Dmuchowski then had eyes

for his first checkered flag of the season, while Horton was charging through

the field.

With no caution flags to bunch the pack, Horton had to rely in pure speed

and handling as he picked his way toward the front. Horton arrived in the top

five before ten laps were complete and then made at least two three-wide

passes to get to the front. Horton slipped into the lead on the 16th lap and

then ran front the field.

Frenchtown's Billy Pauch was second when all was said and done, with

Dmuchowski, third, Fritz Epright of Whitehouse Station, fourth and Kenny

Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa., fifth.

Jeff Acolia of Robbinsville was at the top of his game in the companion

20-lapper for the Sportsman cars, but lapped cars became his downfall late in

the contest. With just a few early race yellows to slow the pace, Acolia was

forced to weave through traffic late in the race. When a few of those cars

were less than cooperative, point leader Richie Pratt, Jr. of Hurffville was

able to gain needed ground and slip into the lead with just two laps

remaining.

Acolia was forced to settle for second, while Lowell Snyder of Upper

Black Eddy, Pa., Rich Stinson of North Branch and Ringoes' Brian Godown

completed the top five.

Phil Retter of Easton, Pa. stormed to the front by the sixth lap and went

on to win the 15-lapper for the Street Stocks. Jackson's Keith Flores and Al

Cheney III of Cranbury were second and third, while Greg Buchanon of

Nazareth, Pa. and John Hewitt of Ottsville, Pa. were fourth and fifth.

The East Windsor Speedway returns to action this Friday evening (August

31) with the Modifieds featured in "Fan Favorite" Twin 20-lap main events.

The Sportsman racers have a 20-lapper planned, while the Street Stocks will

battle in a 15-lapper. Friday night's races begin at 7:30 p.m.

The East Windsor Speedway presents dirt track stock car racing through

the end of September.
