JIMMY HORTON SWEEPS TWIN MODIFIED FEATURES AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Defending Modified stock car driving champ Jimmy Horton

continued his recent hot streak by sweeping twin 20-lap feature races Friday

night at the East Windsor Speedway. All totaled, Horton now has 62 wins at

the half mile clay oval behind the wheel of a Small-Block powered Modified

and 115 East Windsor Speedway victories total. Career wise, Horton now has

385 victories and has won races in six of his last eight starts.

Flemington's John Oliver led the first 20-lapper at the outset, as Horton

set sail from his 12th starting slot. Horton was in third by the sixth lap

and then waited just two more circuits before making a diving three-wide pass

for the lead in the second corner. From then on Horton cruised to victory,

with Fritz Epright of Whitehouse Station holding off Doug Hoffman of

Allentown, Pa. for second. Ryan Watt of Phoenixville, Pa. was fourth and Tad

Cox of Doylestown, Pa. was fifth.

Oliver was again the leader at the start of the 2nd 20-lapper, but Horton

immediately started his drive to the front from 11th. Horton's run was

interrupted early in the event, however, when he was involved in a turn two

tangled along with Hoffman and Cox. The trio ducked to the pit area for

repairs and returned to restart at the back of the pack.

Neshanic Station's Fred Dmuchowski grabbed the lead as action resumed,

but Horton and company were on a mission. Horton arrive in second by lap

seven and wrestled with the leader before finally taking the lead on lap 11.

Horton then raced on to victory, with Dmuchowski second. Hoffman and Cox also

make impressive comebacks finishing third and fourth, while Todd Singley was

fifth.

In the companion 20-lapper for the Sportsman cars, Stan Janiszewski of

Trenton raced from sixth on the 26-car grid to grab the feature win in the

closing laps. Mike Lyons of Hightstown was second, while Rob Gallmayer of

Stockton was third. Jimmy Weiss of Manalapan and Englishtown's John Romano,

Jr. were fourth and fifth.

Taking the lead at halfway after starting 14th, Rob Ormsbee of Jackson

raced to his third win of the year in the 15-lapper for the Street Stocks.

Carol Whitehouse of Hamilton, Phil Retter of Easton, Pa., Brick's George

Quinlin and early leader Frank Dorry of Ringoes wrapped up the top five.

The East Windsor Speedway returns to action this Friday evening

(September 7) with the Modifieds featured in 25-lap main event. The Sportsman

racers have a 20-lapper planned, while the Street Stocks will battle in a

15-lapper on "Len Sammons Memorial Night." The action will be another of the

popular "Run What Ya Brung" programs and competitors who do not have East

Windsor licenses are reminded that they can enter the pit area all through

September by paying an extra $10 at the pit gate. Friday night's races begin

at 7:30 p.m.

The East Windsor Speedway presents dirt track stock car racing through

the end of September.
