Turcotte, Hébert, Payeur and Goyette won in the Quebec Bowl.
We were renewing the tradition of the Quebec Bowl established at RPM Speedway this Friday evening at Autodrome Granby and the spectators present were able to celebrate Quebec with a high quality show. Fans were also able to attend pilot Raphaël Lessard's first race in Modified. Steve Turcotte, his first, David Hébert, Pascal Payeur and Jérémie Goyette took the victories and were able to enjoy a poutine in the trophy as tradition dictates.
The Sportsman were featured with the 2nd round of the Garage P. Auclair Cup with a 40-lap final. Steve Turcotte had an evening worthy of fairy tales and it started very well with the pole position. He will remain in place during the 40 laps of the event to win his first career victory and he could not choose a better night since it is his main sponsor who presents this mini-championship. He had to work until the last lap as Samuel Charland tried everything on the last corner by sliding right next to Turcotte's car but the driver of car 29 was able to resist. Charland finished 2nd for a second time this season and Moïse Pagé took 3rd place. The race took a long time to gain momentum due to neutralizations but the circuit allowed the drivers to express themselves. Many fights took place in the peloton and in the top 5. It was Félix Murray who finally took 4th place ahead of Martin Lessard. More than 44 cars were entered tonight and a B-Main was used which Alexandre Salvas won.
There were 33 cars at the start of the Mods and we got off to a good start to the races as Martin Pelletier, Steve Bernard and David Hébert quickly found themselves at the front. Hébert took the measure of Bernard and Pelletier while François Bernier settled in 3rd place. While the leading trio navigates the laggards, François Bernier hangs on with one of them and has to fall back into the peloton. Bernard remains close to Hébert but we then witness a whole fight between the Cowboy and Steve Bernier. The 2 excellent pilots did not give each other gifts while staying clean. Bernier will ultimately have the best of Bernard. For 3rd place, it was Mario Clair who made a quite incredible comeback after starting 21st. He passed Bernard in the last laps. François Bernier was able to climb up to 5th position. Raphaël Lessard took 22nd place. He wrestled many laps with experienced drivers and the further the race went the more comfortable he was. His adaptability impressed many people this evening.
The Sport Compacts had a final of 20 laps before the intermission and we again witnessed a whole fight for the first position between Jérémie Goyette and Danick Sylvestre. Once again, it was Goyette who had the best, equalizing Sylvestre with a second victory this year. Mathieu Voghell took 3rd place. Competition is fierce again this season in this category and fans enjoyed the race.
The Pro-Stocks saw their race end prematurely because of the curfew. The final was 19 laps and it was Pascal Payeur following a great battle with Bruno Richard who won. The 2 pilots struggled for a long time at 2 wide. Defending champion Yves Hamel took 3rd place in this final where a few cars including that of Dany Voghel were badly banged up.
