Benton and Ogden New Hidden Valley Winners; Schultz/Roos Memorial to Hahn and Marks

For immediate release July 30, 2022
Clearfield, PA - Duncansville’s Ron Benton finally got the monkey off his back as he parked the #52 Amsoil Pure Stock in the Carns Powersports Winners Circle Saturday night at Hidden Valley Speedway. Clearfield’s Jimmy Ogden joined Benton as a new winner, copping his first Craig’s Welding and Fabrication Four Cylinder feature while Mark Hahn and John Marks both of Middletown won the Larry Schultz/Bobby Roos Memorial race for the PA Thunder on Dirt Vintage Modified race in the Modified and Sportsman’s classes respectively.
Repeat winners included Gary Little of Clearfield in the Scaife Racing Supplies Semi Lates, Hayden Holden of Tiona in the Small Block Modifieds and Chad Rougeux of Hyde in the Street Stocks.
The Scaife Racing Supplies Semi Lates took to the track with Steve Scaife Jr. and Dan Smeal on the front row, with Scaife darting into the lead and Smeal going second. The caution flew after the first lap for a spinning Connor Mann, relining the field.
The Delaware Restart saw Scaife still in the lead, but Little and Smeal lined up behind the leader, and Little was able to make the pass going into the first turn. Scaife sat in second and Smeal was third. Several more cautions would slow the race, until the halfway point, as Little continued to set the pace. The second half of the race went non-stop, with Little still leading and Scaife trying to hold off Eric Lucas, who came from 10th starting spot to third. Lucas was throwing everything he had at Scaife, but when Jon Shipley waved the checkered flag it was all Little with Scaife in second, Lucas was third, Justin Owens came from 12th to finish fourth and Smeal held on for fifth. Heat wins were split between Scaife and Smeal.
There were two father/son teams lined up to start the Small Block Modified feature, with Bobby Garvey on the pole and Milton Owens on the outside of the front row. His dad, Bob Garvey was starting 8th. Bobby Garvey took the lead at the start, then looped the car in turn two while working the second lap. This put the leader at the rear, giving the lead over to Hayden Holden, part of the other father/son duo, with his dad, Jimmy Holden now in second. The green waved to restart the race as more cautions slowed the field. Once the race got going, Hayden was setting a torrid pace, when they began to encounter lapped traffic. As they were cloning in on the slower cars, Jimmy was reeling his son in, but then a caution flew, giving young Hayden a clear track. The race was thrown into overtime, with Hayden leading and his dad not giving the boy any room for error as the now 15-year-old Hayden went on to hold his dad at bay to claim his third win of the season. Jimmy Holden was second with Bob Garvey third, Dingo Kirkwood was fourth and Jordan Luzier was fifth. Heat wins went to Bobby Garvey and Jimmy Holden.
The Larry Schultz/Bobby Roos Memorial race for the PA Thunder on Dirt Vintage Modified race saw Cody Schultz, and Mark Hahn on the front row, with Hahn shooting into the lead at the start, with Schultz in second. As the field exited turn two working on lap two, Schultz took the lead and was setting a torrid pace. He led until lap 8, when he went high in turns three and four, allowing Hahn to move under him and into the lead. As Hahn was leading, Schultz was trying everything he had to get by the leader and regain the lead, but he was unable to muster up the extra power, as Hahn took the win over Schultz, Tom Warburton, John Marks and Steve Longo. Heat wins went to Marks and Schultz. The Sportsman’s portion of the race was won by Marks.
Only two Street Stocks answered the call for the night, with Chad Rougeux leading the non-stop race from start to finish with Allen Lamb a close second. Rougeux also won the heat.
Ron Benton and Tyler Rougeux led the Amsoil Pure Stocks to the green flag, with Benton taking the lead and setting the a torrid pace, as he opened up a three-quarter lap lead over second place, which was changing constantly, with Rougeux holding the spot for many laps, but it was Ryan Jones who was biding his time, and on lap 11, he was able to make the move past Rougeux for second and he tried to reel in the leader, but had run out of time as the non-stop. At the finish it was Benton winning easily over Jones, Rougeux, Ryan Shaffner and Lester Hudson. Benton also picked up the heat win.
The Craig’s Welding and Fabrication Four Cylinders saw Jason Elensky and Jimmy Ogden on the front row as Ogden took the lead and set sail. He was not about to give up the win, as he pulled several car lengths on second place Elensky then Luke Hoffner was now in second and was holding off all challengers, but then here came Tyler Gill, as he was still searching for a win, so he was digging deep, but when the checkered flag waved, it was Ogden going the distance for his first win of the season over Gill, Hoffner, Tim Raup and John Brown. Heat wins went to Jason Elensky, Jimmy Ogden and Wild Bill Hassenplug.
