Scaife, Lamb and Rougeux new winners at Hidden Valley
For immediate release August 27, 2022
Clearfield, PA – Steve Scaife Jr. of Philipsburg (Scaife Racing Supplies Semi Lates) and Tyler Rougeux of Grampian earned career first ever wins last night on Winter’s Electrical and Lighting night, held in memory of Brooke Yeager. Allen Lamb of Reynoldsville also broke his way into the winners circle for the first time this season in the Street Stock division.
Repeat wins went to Jimmy Holden of Tiona in the Small Block Modifieds and Wild Bill Hassenplug of Gallitzin in the Craig’s Welding and Fabrication Four Cylinders.
The Scaife Racing Supplies Semi Lates saw Justin Owens and George Bailey lead the field to the green flag, with Owens taking the initial lead, before a red flag halted the action on the backstretch. Gary Little and Eric Lucas tangled on the backstretch and slid into the third turn light pole at speed, causing the light to blow out and causing EMS and fire to check on Little. He was stoved up and sore, but otherwise ok.
Once the race restarted, Owens led the first two laps before Levi Ardery found a groove he liked and took the lead on the third lap. While leading, Ardery was trying to hold off Steve Scaife, who was closing on the leader, and nipping away at the lead every turn. On lap 14, while still trying to hold off Scaife, Ardery got into a lapped car and spun the lapped car, bringing out the yellow. This put Ardery to the rear and gave Scaife the lead, as he held off Lucas the rest of the way to get his first career win. Lucas was second, Owens was third, Ardery worked his way back to fourth and Lauran Rielly was fifth. Ardery and Bailey won the heats.
The Small Block Modifieds saw the father-son duo of Hayden (son) and Jimmy Holden on the front row for the start, with Jimmy shooting into the lead and keeping his son in check the entire 20-lap distance. While the younger Holden had to try and catch his dad, he was struggling to stay in second, as Robert Garvey and Shannon Casher both tried to relieve him of second, but he was able to hold on. At the waving at substitute flagman Brian Biancussio’s double checkered flags with was Jimmy Holden winning over Hayden Holden, Cashier, newcomer Jeremy Beichner and Trent Ogden. Heat wins went to the Holdens.
The Street Stock feature was a crazy one, as the car count was low to start with, then crashes kept causing the participants to drop out and it was after midnight so the race was cut drastically to six laps, and Allen Lamb was able to lead all of those laps from the pole. Chad Rougeux tried everything he had to get by Lamb, but Lamb wasn’t about to be denied the win. At the official finish it was Lamb winning his first at the Valley over Rougeux, Amber Brady, Trevor McCann and Derek Lippert. Lamb won the heat.
In the Amsoil Pure Stocks, Ryan Jones and Tyler Rougeux filled the front row, as Jones took the lead at the start and Rougeux was a close second until lap five when Ron Benton took second from Rougeux. As the race continued, Benton was trying to get by the leader, and finally did on a restart, then the front two got together in turn three, sending Benton to the pits and Jones to the rear. The restart saw Rougeux now in the lead with Joe Kephart throwing everything he had at Rougeux, but the 15-year-old rookie was able to hold on for his first career feature win. Kephart was second, Ryan Shaffner was third with Bob Holt and Jones completing the top five. Shaffner won the heat.
Tim Raup and Luke Hoffner sat on the front row of the Craig’s Welding and Fabrication Four Cylinders as Raup took the lead and was setting the pace, with Jimmy Ogden quickly moving into the second spot and running high. On lap three, Ogden made the top work, as he took the lead from Raup, leading through the fifth lap, when Ogden pitted, during the caution, giving the lead over to Raup, but on the restart, Tyler Gill shot around Raup and took the lead. As he led, he appeared to be headed to a career first win, but Wild Bill Hassenplug was reeling in the leader, and on lap 13 when the final caution waved, Hassenplug was sitting in second and working through the final two turns, Hassenplug was able to muscle his way into the lead as he led the final few yards to the finish line. Gill was a close second with Virgil Myer third, Ryan Lippert was fourth and Allen Robison was fifth. Heat wins were split between Raup, Hoffner, Kevin Criswell and Ogden.
The Aquaholic Motorsports Powder Puff race saw Melissa Rock and Melanie Luzier on the front row, and they were the two giving the fans a show, but coming out of turn four on lap 8, the pair tangled, sending Rock hard into one of the uke tires along the infield, causing her pain that resulted in her being extricated from the car by members of Winburne Fire Co. and transported to a local hospital by Rescue Hose and Ladder EMS. Rock said Sunday morning she is home and sore, but otherwise ok. The race was concluded at that point and the top five were: Jacqueline Graham the winner, Verlee Elensky, Sara Ray, Samantha Lippert and Janna Whitling in fifth. Heat wins went to Lindsay McClellan and Luzier.
