Fields Only new HVS Winner; Brown Takes Mayhew Memorial

For Immediate Release Sept. 3, 2022
Clearfield, PA - Josh Fields of Brockport picked up his first Amsoil Pure Stock feature win of the season Saturday night at Hidden Valley Speedway, while John Brown of Woodland claimed the Jesse Mayhew Memorial for his third win of the season in the Craig’s Welding and Fabrication Four Cylinders, as the speedway celebrated its 30th Anniversary.
Other repeat winners include: Steven Scaife Jr. of Philipsburg in the Scaife Racing Supplies Semi Lates, Hayden Holden of Tiona in the Small Block Modifieds, and Fuzzy Fields of Brockport in the Street Stocks.
The Semi Late feature saw Eric Lucas and George Bailey on the front row, with Bailey filling in for Gary Little, as Lucas took the initial lead and was setting the pace through several cautions. The race restarted on lap three with Scaife wrestling the lead away from Lucas going into the first turn, as Lucas would continue to chase Scaife but then on lap 12, Lucas unexpectedly pulled off the track, giving second over to Justin Owens, who tried to get past Scaife had, but Scaife had the winning set up for the second straight week. Owens was second with Mike Blazier, Waco Williams and Jeremy Lipper completing the top five. Heat wins went to Lucas and Bailey.
The Small Block Modifieds were led to the start by Bobby Garvey and Hayden Holden, with Garvey taking the initial lead and setting the pace. Garvey was leading for four laps, before Holden was able to reel in the leader and take the lead out of turn four on the fifth lap. As Holden led, Garvey had to fend off first Shannon Casher and then Jimmy Holden who is piloting the Mike Stine #7s, as Jimmy was coming from 8th spot. With two laps to go, Jordan Luzier spun, regrouping the field. As the final two laps unwound, it was all Hayden Holder holding on to get his fourth win of the season. Garvey was second, Jimmy Holden was third, Casher held onto fourth and Trent Ogden was fifth. Heat wins were split between Garvey and J. Holden.
The Street Stocks saw The Animal, Jim Bloom on the pole and Mike Bordt sitting outside the front row, with Bloom taking the initial lead and Bordt sitting second. Bordt lost second to Todd English on lap four, but he bobbled in turns three and four on lap seven, falling back several spots, which allowed Fuzzy Fields to take the second spot and pursue Bloom for the lead. As the field was working lap eight, Fields was able to get by Bloom for the lead, but Bloom was still in striking distance, but could not find the push to take back the lead. As Jon Shipley threw the checkered flag, it was Fields getting the win, over Bloom, English, Chad Rougeux and Mark Bell. The heat was won by Fields.
The Wild and Woolly Amsoil Pure Stocks sawRon Benton and Josh Fields on the front row, as Benton took the lead and Brad Benton was a close second, dropping Fields to third and Ryan Jones in fourth. Fields was able to get past Brad Benton on lap six, setting his sights on the leader Ron Benton. On lap 8, Fields was side-by-side with Ron Benton at the line, as they went into the first turn, they were still door-to-door, but Ron Benton spun to bring out the caution. On the restart, Benton pitted and Fields was the new leader, as he held off Brad Benton for his first ever HVS feature win. Brad Benton was second, Jones was third, Ryan Shaffner was fourth and Joe Kephart was fifth. Ron Benton and Josh Fields won the heats.
The Jesse Mayhew Memorial was the race of the night. Mayhew will alway be a huge part of the speedway, having co-sponsored the Four Cylinder division for two years with Little’s Drive In. Mayhew also wished for his ashes to be spread at the speedway and they were during the inaugural event last year.
This year an anonymous fan sponsored enough money to give the winner $500.
The field was led to the start with John Brown and William Kephart on the front row, with Brown taking the lead and eventually leading all the laps, but his win wasn’t easy, as he had Luke Hoffner chasing him at the start, then Jason Elensky took over second and began chasing Brown, but then Hoffner wanted to be second, so he took over the runner up position. As those two continued to jockey for position, Brown was opening up a little bit of a lead, as Tyler Gill and Allen Robison got into the tussle, when Shipley waved that checkered flag, it was Brown getting the win over Hoffner, Gill, Elensky and Robison. Heat wins went to Wild Bill Hassenplug, Kephart and Elensky.
