WILL SHIELDS HOLDS OFF STELLAR MODIFIED FIELD TO CLAIM FIRST OUTLAW SPEEDWAY FEATURE OF 2025

Marc Minutolo (HS), Jason Smart (MS) and Kolston Decamp (Bandits) all made 3 wins on the season.

Andrew Clark (CS) along with Jimmy Grant (SS) hit paydirt for first time in 2025.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY) For only the fourth time thus far in 2025, the Outlaw Speedway was able to beat the weather getting their regularly scheduled event into the record books and with a $5 General Admission ticket price the popular Yates County Facility was packed with those not in attendance following the live stream on “The Cushion”.

Will Shields had previously picked up an Outlaw Speedway Sportsman Track Championship several years ago prior to moving full time into the Modified Division, consequently the young gun from Kings Ferry, NY knows his way around the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Oval.

With a loaded field of twenty-six Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds lined up for their thirty-lap feature and with the handicap system now in play the field was littered from front to back with many of the heavy weights in the northeast region.

Shields would begin the event outside the fourth starting row and when the green rag dropped pole position starter, Stacy Jackson who was sporting fresh power between the rails of his Siri Racing X machine jumped into the early advantage.

In clean air Jackson would stretch his advantage to almost a full straight away advantage over the Dundee native Brady Fultz prior to the only caution of the event flying on lap nine for the slowed machine of Kreg Crooker.

Once back in action Jackson was once again setting a blistering pace over Fultz and Nick Nye who was running third, but Shields was just outside the top three and using the very bottom of the wide, tacky and smooth surface to his advantage and was up to fourth.

It did not take Shields long to dispose of Nye and Fultz prior to making his move on lap fourteen to take command of the event and from there he would never look back in claiming his second ever Modified feature win at Outlaw.

Bossman, Tyler Siri who owns and promotes the track began the feature in the tenth starting position and was up to third by lap fifteen and right in the tire tracks of Jackson and within the next five laps he was able to move past his hired driver and take over the runner-up spot, however there was plenty of daylight between his potent 5* machine and that of the 82 of Shields.

Little by little Siri chipped away at the Shields advantage and by lap twenty-five he was easily within striking distance and with lap traffic now in play it was a two -horse race with Siri all over Sheilds like a cheap tie.

However, Shields kept his cool under heavy fire from Siri and was able to move on to the feature win with Tyler Siri a solid second.

May 30, 2025 Modified feature winner and current point leader, Mike Maresca failed to qualify in his heat race and was buried deep in the field lining up fifteenth on the opening grid and with the help of only one caution flag, the former Potsdam resident who now resides in Central New York moved by a number of high profile drivers to work his way into the final podium finishing position.

The Doctor, Danny Johnson piloting his famous Tim Gibson owned 27j was able to advance one position from his original fifth starting slot to claim fourth with Stacy Jackson holding on to complete the top five after leading the opening thirteen circuits on what was ironically Friday the 13th.

Dundee, NY resident, Andrew Clark was able to take full advantage of his outside front row starting position in the twenty-five lap Knapp and Schlappi Lumber 602 Crate Sportsman feature as he would go on go to claim his first feature win at Outlaw Speedway in 2025.

Like the Modifieds before them the Sportsman also sent twenty-six machines to the post with many of the top guns buried from mid-pack on back with qualifying and current points setting the starting line-up.

Clark who came into the night mired in seventeenth place in the point standings was able to put on a steady performance to pick-up the “W” as he was able to fight off former Hoosier Tire Sportsman Outlaw Speedway Track Champion, AJ Lloyd out of Canandaigua who advanced from sixth to finish in the runner-up slot.

Up and coming young racer, Justice Mayo has struggled a bit thus far in 2025 but was able to put on a solid performance to claim third at the checkered flag after starting the event outside row two.

Fourth place went to veteran competitor Josh Nobriga of Lindley, NY who started ninth with May 30 feature winner and many time Sportsman Track Champ, Chris Fisher of Bluff Point coming from twelfth to complete the top five.

Swarthout Recycling Street Stocks sent seventeen classy looking machines to the grid as current point leader; Glenn Whritenour of Jasper was looking to keep his undefeated 2025 season at Outlaw intact.

Whritenour entered the event with a perfect 3 and 0, however he would have to begin the twenty-lap affair in the twelfth starting position.

Shane Wolf and Brett Crawford both have top quality equipment but 2025 has not been good to either competitor thus far, however the pair of veterans would bring the field to the opening green with Wolf leading the way in the opening laps.

Second gen Penn Yan, NY pilot, Jimmy Grant had been Whritenour’s number one nemesis coming into the night having played second fiddle in previous weeks and like GW, Grant would also line up in the sixth starting row, however it would not take him long to slice his way through traffic, run down the lead duo of Wolf and Crawford, take command and from there cruise to the popular victory.

Wolf was able to fend off Crawford to claim second with Crawford completing the podium.

Freeville, NY competitor and Thunder Mountain Speedway top runner, Jerry Lobdell Jr. would start the twenty-lap feature in tenth and advance to fourth with Whritenour’s perfect season at Outlaw Speedway concluding as he would complete the top five.

The participating NAPA Auto Parts Stores in Addison, Corning, Hornell and Wellsville sponsored Hobby Stock Division would find eleven machines taking to the speedway for their twenty-lap A Main which is a build up for next week’s Freedom 40, $1,500 to win special spearheaded by last season’s point champion, Jeredd Dennis.

Dennis has put together an impressive event which will pay lap money in addition to several dollars going back to military veterans who is a part of having served his country.

Incidentally, the Freedom 40 will be held in conjunction with next week’s Military and Police night at the track.

Many times Outlaw Speedway NAPA Hobby Stock Track Champion and Phelps, NY speedster, Marc Minutolo entered the night hoping to back-up his two feature wins on the rainy 2025 season.

The Nature Boy, Mike Stone of Campbell along with Ed Stevens of Weedsport would bring the field to green and would tussle for the top spot in the early going.

However, Minutolo would use plenty of patience and his years of experience in Hobby Stock competition to eventually find his way to the front after a spirited battle with Jared Hill of Dundee.

Once in control Minutolo would cruise to win three on the campaign and even after a caution flag which put third generation Stanley, NY driver, Daniel Kerrick on Mr. Smooth’s rear bumper, Kerrick was no match for the high- flying Minutolo as the pair would flash under the double checkers finishing one/two with Jared Hill nailing third.

Mike Stone, who fought early season gremlins in his machine would drift back from his pole position starting spot to claim fourth with Rich Sharpsteen of Waverly coming from sixth to round out the top five finishers.

The Winner’s Circle Deli 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks features a mixture of both front and rear wheel drive creations. The class will find a good balance of both veteran drivers as well as up-can-coming youngsters.

In their twenty -lap feature a pair of Dundee competitors in Gavin Hall and Connor Erick would bring the field to Raymond Kennerups’ opening green flag.

Branchport, NY driver and former Outlaw Track Champion, Jason Smart entered the event on a roll having won a pair of events with the most recent coming two weeks ago on May 30 and with a outside row three starting spot, Smart was poised to make it back to back trips to victory lane and that is just what he did as he would pick up the victory over another former Outlaw Mini Stock Track Champion, Scott Lehman who had to settle for second.

However, the real story of the night may have come from last year’s Bandit Track Champion, Zach Daugherty who in his Rookie season in the Adult Mini Stock Class would begin the event in fifth and move nicely into third at the checkered flags.

Daugherty also claimed his first ever heat win earlier in the evening.

Chasing Daugherty across the line was Derrick Puryear who claimed fourth with Lee Fritz of Rockstream completing the top five.

Earlier in the evening the Fritz Masonry Youth Bandits took to the track with four future stars taking the opening green in their feature event.

A pair of Dundee students in Connor Crane and Danica Hall would bring the field to green, but it was once again Corning’s Kolston Decamp finding his way from last to first in taking home win three on the season as he remains undefeated in Bandit action.

Chasing DeCamp across the line was Connor Crane, Kassitie Clugstone of Watkins Glen along with Danica Hall and as always, the kids put on a masterful performance for the fans in attendance.

Congratulations to all our competitors.

Like she has some many other times throughout the 2025 season, Mother Nature tried to muddy the waters again and with the threat of late evening showers track owner, Tyler Siri and his staff stayed on the whip and kept the show moving along very nicely and with a limited number of caution flags throughout the night the entire program including the $500 to win 1 on 1 Spectator Races was safely put into the record books in just a little over three and a half hours with just shy of 100 cars registered on the night. Showers did develop south of the speedway just shortly after the final checkered flag of the night waved.

Up next at Outlaw Speedway on Friday, June 20, 2025, it will be another Fast 5* show featuring all the weekly divisions plus the Hustle the Highways 600cc Modifieds racing for a winner’s take of $1,000.

In addition, the NAPA Hobby Stocks will run the Inaugural Freedom 40 paying $1,500 to win and $100 to start plus lap money.

It will be Military and Police night at the track and any active or retired Military Veteran or member of Police will be admitted into the Grandstand Seating Area FREE will proper ID.
