Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Dundee, NY). For the first time in 2025 the Outlaw Speedway got a show into the books without any weather-related drama and with six rained out events so far Mother Nature finally came around providing a picture-perfect night for competition on the tabletop smooth and wide Fast 4/10 of a Mile Oval.

A full twenty-four car field of Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds checked in for the night of action and in their thirty-lap feature third generation Seneca Falls pilot, Tommy Paine along with second gen driver, Ron Cartwright Jr. would bring the stacked field to the opening green with Paine leading the first six circuits before Cartwright moved by in his Ford Powered machine to take over the top spot and pace the field until lap eleven when eighth starting Alex Payne would storm by and claim the lead.

Once in front the third-generation driver from Hopewell would stretch his advantage to a full straightaway as the leaders were in heavy lap traffic.

The only yellow flag of the event would wave on lap seventeen for a trio of cars tangled up in turns three and four including Brian Swarthout, Daniel Johnson and Stacy Jackson.

Johnson and Jackson were able to continue, but Swarthout was done for the night with front end damage.

Once back to green and in clean air Payne, the defending Outlaw Speedway Modified Champion once again set a blistering pace with Cartwright second and current point leader, Mike Maresca up to third from his fourteenth starting position.

With just a handful of laps to go, Payne was once again into heavy lap traffic as he kept the hammer down with Maresca now in second after waging a torrid battle with Cartwright for the runner-up spot, but the distance between the lead duo was to great and Maresca could do little to close the gap and as the double checkered flags waved it was Alex Payne claiming his first Modified feature win of the season after a couple of subpar point finishes his last two trips out.

Maresca had another outstanding performance in claiming second with Cartwright completing the podium, his best finish of the season after losing his primary engine last week and having to go to a back-up car and power plant.

Like Cartwright, Kreg Crooker was also forced to his back-up car and motor as he two suffered minor engine woes, but the Savona, NY native used his Big Block power to drive from eighth to nail fourth at the finish in his Brent Cross owned machine.

Two-time 2025 feature winner, Bobby Varin began the thirty-lap grind sandwiched between Payne and Maresca on the opening grid in position twelve and rode the rim to complete the top five.

Knapp and Schlappi Lumber 602 Crate Sportsman sent a solid twenty-three car field to the grid as veteran campaign; Loren Lincoln would bring the field to green.

George Schweigart of Woodhull was able to quickly move by Lincoln and secure the lead, however a yellow flag would slow the pace with just one lap completed.

Once back to green Schweigart set a blistering pace as he opened up a commanding lead which was wiped out on lap eleven as the second and final caution of the twenty-five lap feature waved putting Spencer, NY’s Dale Welty on the back bumper of Schweigart and after a classic side by side battle for several laps Welty was able to get by and take away the top spot bringing Chris Fisher along with him moving Schweigart back to third.

With five to go and Welty holding off pressure from Fisher, all eyes were on Blake Parsons who had moved to the very top of the banking and was beginning to mow the field down.

Parsons began the event inside row three and was passed by both Welty and Fisher coming through traffic, but that did not deter the Beaver Dams pilot from putting on a relentless late race charge.

With Welty, Fisher and Schweigart all running the bottom, Parsons was ripping the cushion and with just two laps to go he cleared Fisher for second and with the checkered flag waving was able to dispose of Welty to pick-up his first feature win of the season as the packed grandstands went absolutely nuts!

A disappointed Dale Welty and Chris Fisher had to settle for second and third at the finish as they could do nothing to stop the Parsons onslaught.

George Schweigart capped off a great drive finishing fourth while opening night feature winner, Donnie Lawson put on yet another of his patented driving clinics passing the most cars during the event in advancing thirteen positions from eighteenth to complete the top five.

The highly touted Addison, Corning, Hornell, Wellsville NAPA Stores Freedom 40 Hobby Stock event on Military and Police Night at Outlaw Speedway drew a very respectful field of twenty-one machines including regulars from Outlaw as well as invaders from such places as Land of Legends, Woodhull and Thunder Mountain Speedways.

With the assistance of 2024 NAPA Hobby Stock Track Champion and former Marine, Jeredd Dennis lap money was secured from a multitude of individuals including a hefty $500 put up by the Management of the track as with each lap, half of the lap money going to a driver and half going to local veterans and with $2,200 to win the 40 lap event everyone was looking to cash in on this unique event.

The Nature Boy, Mike Stone along with Ed Stevens of Weedsport would bring the twenty-one- car field to green, however before the first lap could be completed the first caution of five would fly for a mishap in turn two.

Once back to green, outside row two starter and Dundee native, Jered Hill shot into the lead from his second row starting spot and would lead laps one through nineteen having to withstand caution flag slow downs on laps eight and eighteen.

After several weeks of finishing in the bridesmaid spot, Gorham, NY speedster and third generation pilot, Danny Kerrick was now up to second after starting seventh and passed Hill on lap twenty to take control of the event and from there he would never look back in claiming his first win of the season at Outlaw.

Two more yellow flags would bunch up the field as multiple time Track Champion, Marc Minutolo was very methodically working his way to the front after starting the grind along side of Kerrick in row four and was now up to second as he was being chased by former Outlaw Hobby Stock competitor and now Land of Legends competitor, Frank Bubba Burnell.

With just three laps remaining, Mr. Smooth lived up to his nickname as he was glued to the rear trunk lid of Kerrick with Budda Burnell right there in third and if that wasn’t enough drama, the final caution would fly with just on lap remaining allowing Minutolo one last shot at victory, however Kerrick was to much to handle as he held on to claim the huge payday in front of the massive crowd that had assembled including many active and retired members of both the Military and Police Departments.

Minutolo would hold off a hard charging Burnell as the two Phelps, NY veteran competitors would join Kerrick as the top three podium finishers.

Mike Stone of Campbell in his Rookie Season would put on a very steady performance keeping his nose clean to finish fourth with journeyman competitor, Nate Peckham of Seneca Falls advancing one spot from sixth to complete the top five.

Swarthout Recycling Street Stocks were up next for their twenty-lap A-Main as the Classy Looking Creations would once again put on an outstanding performance with many of the top Street Stock drivers in this region converging on Outlaw Speedway.

Like Danny Kerrick in Hobby Stocks, second gen driver and Penn Yan resident, Jimmy Grant also found himself playing second fiddle on several occasions thus far in 2025 prior to breaking through with his first win last week.

On this night another stacked up field would take the opening green with anyone of a dozen or more drivers able to pick up the victory.

However, Grant was once again too much to manage on this night as he would back up last week’s win as he held off a pair of former Outlaw Track Champions in Shane Wolf (2023) and Glen Whritenour (2022 and beyond).

For Wolf he continues to rebound from mechanical issues which have plagued the George Miller-owned machine earlier in the season.

Another Street Stock Champion in CJ Guererri had another solid Outlaw Speedway performance finishing fourth while last years SS Track Champion, Gene Sharpsteen would go on to complete the top five.

In short, Grant held off four former Outlaw SS Track Champions to claim the win.

Teddy Morseman of Cameron, NY was making a rare Outlaw Speedway appearance driving his daughter’s potent 44 machine that normally competes weekly at Woodhull Raceway.

Morseman, who had a stellar career in Mini Stock action prior to moving full-time into Street Stock competition, would line up seventh at the start and masterfully work his way into the top spot and from there go on to pick up win one of the season.

Austyn Diaz of Dundee was buried deep in the thirteen-car field and like Morseman worked his way towards the front and was rewarded with a fine second place finish with Mike Stone completing the top three podium finishers.

For Stone it capped of a career night as his double duty driving brought great dividends with a third in Mini Stock action coupled with a fourth in the Hobby Stock 40.

Rookie of the Year contender and last seasons, Youth Bandit Champion, Zach Daugherty would advance one spot to nail fourth.

Dundee native Jeff Moore completed the top five.

The Hustle the Highways 600cc Modified Touring Series made their inaugural appearance at the Fast 4/10 of a Mile Oval bringing a very respectful eighteen car field.

The twenty-lap feature would see Ali Scutt and Chuck Lohmeyer bring the high-powered, ear deafening ground rockets to green with Lohmeyer immediately taking control and stretching his advantage until the first yellow flag waved on lap eight.

On the restart, Justin Ladue would make a nifty move around Lohmeyer to take control and never look back from there.

The second and final caution flag would fly on lap nineteen for the disabled machine of Ryan Jordan which would eventually turn into a red flag situation so medical personnel could address Jordan who was reported as ok with a burn on his arm.

With a one lap shootout and a field of hungry competitors lined up behind, Ladue was able to hold everyone at bay to claim the $1,000 victory.

Anthony Desimone began the event in tenth and completed a masterful drive to finish second with Ali Scutt, who raced within the lead group the entire distance completed the podium.

Sam Hubbard moved forward from seventh to finish fourth with TJ Smith following Hubbard throughout the entire distance to round the top five.

Originally the Hustle the Highway 600cc Mods were scheduled to be part of the season opening Lucas Oil Nationals Event in April, however Mother Nature had other ideas, but with their return they put on a great display which kept fans on their feet the entire distance.

Congratulations to all competitors on this night.

Next week Outlaw Speedway will lay silent to commemorate the local High School Graduating Classes, however the popular Yates County Speedway will roar back to life on Friday, July 4 with a Fast 5* Show as well as a $20,000 Fireworks Extravaganza.

Thursday Night Thunder will be back with the 3rd Annual Dave Machuga Memorial on July 10 featuring the return of the Short Track Super Series for Modifieds.
