There was a new face in the winners circle at lolling Wheels Raceway Friday night as Danny Johnson of Middlesex, NY won his first feature ever at the fast track.
Danny started at the rear because of a late arrival and followed his brother "A.J. Slidways" through the field and af ter a caution Danny slid by his brother and then early leader Darrell Welty and then took two more laps to get by "Wiley" Will Cagle on the 23rd lap to go on for the win. Cagle was second, Welty third, Alan Johnson fourth and Chuck Akulis fifth.
As the feature was a thriller so were the qualifying heats Jeff Kappesser won the first heat while Merv Treichler and Cagle battled through seven laps of the second heat with Treichler, with his offset car, just edged Cagle.
In late model action Walt Mitchell and Bobby Lutz set the stage by winning their heats. Then in the 20 lap feature Lutz got out in front while Randy Glenski and Walt Mitchell battled back and fourth through the last 16 laps with Glenski picking up the runner up spot and Mitchell third.
