WARD RETURNS TO BREWERTON SPEEDWAY WINNERS CIRCLE ON SYRACUSE.COM NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Pat Ward returned to the winners circle at Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Syracuse.com Night. Ward took the lead away from Vic Coffey on lap 10 of the 35-lap main event. In the late going Ward held off the late race challenge of both Alan Johnson and Tim Fuller to earn the win. The victory for the Gypsum Express DIRT Modified team was worth $2,000.
Tim Sears jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Syracuse.com DIRT Modified main event. After five laps Sears was being followed in the top five by Jeremie Corcoran, Vic Coffey, Pat Ward and Craig Terrell. Sears led the opening eight laps of the feature race over the talent heavy field. Coffey took the top spot away from Sears on lap nine. Coffey was in search of his first ever Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified feature win.
Ward took the lead away from Coffey on lap-10. Ward wasted no time in charging to the front from the 11th starting position. At the halfway point Ward continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Coffey, Alan Johnson, Gary Tomkins and Tim Fuller. Johnson and Fuller passed Coffey on lap 23 and the duo quickly closed in on Ward.
A three car battle for the win was now in store during the closing laps. On one occasion Ward and Johnson touched racing down the front stretch. Both drivers were able to keep control and Ward went on to his first feature win at Brewerton Speedway in four seasons. Johnson had to settle for second with Fuller, Tomkins and Decker completing the top five. Coffey, Chuck Bower, Ryan Phelps, Jeremie Corcoran and Jeff Isabell finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
Mike Chilson won his first IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday night. Bill Anderson Sr., Les Hubbard, Rich Riggs and Dale Caswell followed Chilson across the finish line. Chilson led the entire 20-lap feature from the third staring position.
Darren Forbes earned the win in the 20-lap Dwarf Car / Mod Lite main event. Matt Magner, John Behron, Doug Williams and Mark Cooper followed Forbes across the finish line. Forbes took the lead away from Magner on lap 12 and he led the rest of the distance. John Behron was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car with a solid third place effort.
Lorrie Herbert won her second Four Cylinder Super Stock feature of the season Friday night. The lady racer was followed by Chuck Powelczyk, Ken Klinkowsky, Jeff Herbert and Joey Delacruz. Herbert led the entire 15-lap distance from the third starting position.
Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars / Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in action. The added attraction of the night is the "Second Across Finish Line Wins" race.
