Jet flies high, Zemken first ever open wheeled Female win as Super DIRT Series invades Brockville

BROCKVILLE-Brett Hearn was flying high and that was bad news for the competition as the Jet took the Q102.9-Yes FM 100 for Modifieds on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway before a capacity crowd. The companion Super DIRT Series event for Sportsman featured the track's first ever female open wheeled winner as Jessica Zemken rocketed her way to victory lane in the Dingwall Motorsports sponsored 50 lapper.

The Modifieds started their night with time trials with Laurent Ladouceur turning some heads by setting fast time with a 13.9 second lap with the top 13 cars separated by less than 2 tenths of a second. However when the green flag dropped it was Mike Adderley and Steve Poirier on the front row. Poirier quickly grabbed the top spot as the field roared away for the Turning Stone Casino 358 Modified series event. Poirier's lead wouldn't last long however as Hearn quickly moved to challenge and then take the lead before lap 20. Hearn used the track position to his advantage pulling out a substantial margin at times through until lap 75. Lapped traffic then presented a challenge for the leader and allowed Steve Paine to pull to within a couple of car lengths with less than 10 laps to go. The Brockville track champ had his hopes of a sweep of the 100 lap events this season dashed by a late caution that gave Hearn a clear track to work with on a slick surface. He again pulled away and scored the victory. Paine finished in the number 2 spot while Steve Poirier parlayed some real good work on restarts into a third place finish. Pat Ward helped his cause in the small block points race with a fourth place finished in front of Billy Decker who was the fastest car in the track in the late going. Decker's hopes perished when he went way high in turn 4 with 15 to go. Alan Johnson who tore through the field from his 22nd starting spot was 6th followed by Pete Bicknell, Danny O Brien, Ladouceur and Bill Gill. 11 cars finished on the lead lap with 42 cars trying to qualify for the race.

In the Sportsman event, Zemken and Kyle Lewis started up front when the green flag waved for the first time. Lewis however took the early advantage. only to have Jessica turn up the heat almost immediately. Zemken finally took the lead with a classic go outside off of turn 4 and then dip down on the inside down the front straight move that had Brockville fans on the edge of their seats. The young lady then survived numerous restarts and held off Eldon Payne Jr for the victory in the 50 lap affair. B.O.S. regular Jason Potter came home in the third spot in front of Paul Carey and Kevin Bates. The event included a red flag after Bob Henry Jr. rolled his car at the very top of turn 4. Henry walked away unharmed.

It was survival of the fittest in the 20 lap Street Stock event as Billy Code drove a consistent and patient race to find victory lane. Dave Austin closed the season with a solid second place run in front of Kevin McRae, Wayne Holmes who had to pit about 10 laps in came back for fourth followed by Charles Barkley.

Portland's Joe Banks was tops in an entertaining 12 lap Rookie event that featured a mad 3 car scramble for the win in the final two turns. Josh Kane was a career best second followed by track champ Billy Woodward Jr, Steve Smith and Brad Kirkland. Brockville Ontario Speedway closes out the season on Sunday afternoon at 2pm with the Kanes Towing Monster Enduro with 150 laps for 8 cylinder cars and 50 for 4 cylinders.
