FULLER DOMINATES AND TAKES CAYUGA TITLE, POTTER WINS SPORTSMAN GO

WEEDSPORT, NY...Tim Fuller came, saw and conquered the high banks of the Cayuga County Fair Speedway, winning last Sunday's Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series 100 for big block DIRT Modifieds. Fuller picked up $6,000 for the win and enough points to earn the 2004 Cayuga County Fair Speedway track championship.

In other action it was Jason Potter picked up the 20-lap DIRT Sportsman victory and Karl Werner won the special season ending 25-lap Enduro.

Tim Fuller took the lead at the drop of the green from his outside pole sitting spot beating out pole man Tim McCreadie. Danny Johnson brought his Lisa Maroney small block to do battle with the big blocks and sat in third. By lap six, Fuller had stretched out a 1.5 second lead over McCreadie. Johnson tried to go high and take second but McCreadie held him at bay.

On lap 15 the yellow flew when Jeff Isabell slowed on the front stretch with a flat tire. He pitted but did not return to the race. The restart saw Johnson challenge Fuller for the lead.

The second yellow flew on lap 21 when Chuck Bower looped in the second turn. Johnson continued to press for the lead. He was able to gain the lead starting on lap 22. Fuller ducked low in the fourth turn and regained to lead from Johnson on lap 26.

The remainder of the race was a demonstration in domination as Fuller drew away from the rest of the field by nearly 2 seconds. Numerous times in lapped traffic Johnson was able to close on Fuller. But Johnson had his hands full with Chad Brachmann. Brachmann was able to take second from Johnson on lap 42. Also moving up was Billy Decker. Decker worked his way from 13th starting spot took third and began to move in on Brachmann. On lap 47 he made his move and passed Brachmann for the runner up spot.

The race remained green from lap 22 to lap 100. Fuller produced a driving clinic on the way to the win. Decker held on to second with Matt Sheppard moving into third on lap 74. Gary Tomkins came home in fourth. Jimmy Phelps's fifth place finish earned him the guaranteed starting spot for the Eckerd 200 at Syracuse in October.

Fuller averaged 70.223 mph on his way to victory.

The 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature saw only one yellow. On lap three Eldon Payne Jr. slowed on the front stretch. Amy Pfeffer clipped Payne before the yellow completely slowed the field. Both cars were able to return to the race. Mike Conrow led up until the yellow. The restart saw Jason Potter take the lead. Potter then stretched out his advantage. In the late stages Conrow closed the gap and looked as if he would challenge. At one time Potter was caught in lap traffic and nearly lost the lead to Conrow.

Potter took the win followed by Conrow. Russ Hefti, Mike Bowman and Ryan Richardson rounded out the top five finishers. Bob Henry Jr. Needed to just take the green to earn the sportsman track championship.
