McCREADIE RETURNS TO EMPIRE WINNER'S CIRCLE




WEEDSPORT, NY...Bob McCreadie, from Watertown, NY, became the sixth different winner in the 2004 version of the Colton R live television Empire Series. McCreadie who has 64 feature win at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway, has not been in victory lane since last year's Empire Series race on July 13, 2003.

Russ Hefti continued his winning ways picking up the 20-la DIRT Sportsman victory. In the Street Stocks it was Dan Hoffma padding his points lead. Bill Werner on the Pit Stop Convenienc Stores Enduro. The Central NY Mini-Sprints were on hand for special appearance, with Cory Sparks, from Scotia, NY, taking the 20-lap victory.

The 35-lap DIRT Modified feature got off with Ray Bliss grabbing the early lead. A lap two yellow flew when Jeff Brownel Jr. made contact with the fourth turn wall. Bliss was able t maintain his lead on the restart over Bob McCreadie, Vic Coffey Derrick Podsiadlo and Justin Haers.

Lap six saw the yellow fly for a second time. Chuck Bower rode the third-fourth turn cement wall, landing on all four wheels. At the same time Podsiadlo dropped out of the race wit technical issues.

This time McCreadie took the lead in a side-by-side restart with Bliss. The yellow flew for the third time on lap nine when Vince Vitale came to a stop in the fourth turn.

McCreadie then began to pull away from the other top cars. late race yellow, lap 26, bunched the leaders together for a the lap dash to the checkers. At the finish line it was McCreadie winning a close one over Decker, Tomkins and Todd Milton. The average speed of the race was 73.012 mph.

Russ Hefti led all 20 laps of the sportsman main event. Only one yellow, that coming on lap five, for debris in the second turn. That debris ended up being the right front wheel assembly off the Rob Bellinger car.

When the race resumed it was Hefti being followed by Jaso Potter and Bob Henry Jr. Henry Jr. was closing the gap fast Hefti enjoyed a 1.7 second lead over Potter.

Hefti took the victory followed by Jason Potter, Bob Henry Jr., Mike Bowman and Greg Doust. The sportsman average speed was 74.155 mph, slightly faster then the DIRT Modifieds due to few cautions.

Dan Hoffman dusted off the smallish Street Stock field. In race that would go green-to-checkers, Hoffman led 19 of the 2 circuits. Bill Flask led the first lap of the event.

Cory Sparks remains undefeated at Cayuga County in the mini Sprints. Sparks won the first time the series came to Cayuga County in 2004.

Jared Fink, from Germantown, NY took the early lead in the 20-lap CNY Mini-Sprint main. His lead evaporated when Jamie Kise slowed on the back stretch and coasted to a stop to bring out the yellow.

The restart saw Sparks duck low in the second turn a screamed into the lead. Lap nine saw a second yellow when Marshall Gogg slowed in the first turn. Sparks then proceeded to blow b everyone and pull out a significant lead over Fink.

Sparks took the win followed by Fink, Quick, Sergeant an Pat Kuerner.

The Cayuga County Fair Speedway will be returning again this Sunday with Round Seven of the 2004 Empire Series presented b Colton RV's. Qualifying heats hit the speedway at 7 p.m. sharp.

The Cayuga County Fair Speedway is located just minutes of the New York State Thruway, Exit 40.
