Track Champions Crowned at Can-Am

LaFargeville NY… Caprara’s Can-Am Motorsports Park presented their “Night of Champions” on Saturday, August 30, 2008. The evenings events, sponsored by Sherwin Williams, Atomic Sign Works, Autumn’s Barber Shop & Tanning, Ben Shoen’s Home Improvements and Karen & Jaspers Bar & Bistro, featured the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds, Sportsmans, Street Stocks, IMCA, Purestocks, Thunder Cars and Mod Lites.

The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds finished their final regular night of 2008 with Chris Higgins and Mark Smoke leading the field to the green flag. Chris Higgins took over the early command of the feature event while Ryan Bartlett and Larry Wight filled out the top three. Pat O’Brien slid under teammate Larry Wight to take over the third position while point’s leader Frankie Caprara was solidly moving through the field. Billy Dunn slid under Tyler Bartlett to take over position number four as the laps clicked away. Ryan Bartlett, Pat O’Brien and Billy Dunn filled out the top three nose to tail while the rest of the field battled with positions. Pat O’Brien moved under Ryan Bartlett going into turn number three and by the exit of turn four, O’Brien had taken the lead on the field. Frankie Caprara moved under Tyler Bartlett to enter the fourth place position while Pat O’Brien strengthened his lead on the field. Scott Webb moved to the inside of Frankie Caprara to take over the third position. As the checkered flag waved, Pat O’Brien would collect the win while Ryan Bartlett and Scott Webb filled out the top three. Frankie Caprara took home the track championship.

Brad Winters and Terry Gould led the Sportsman division to Matt Burdick’s green flag in their 20 lap feature event. Brad Winters jumped out to take the early command while Mark Webb and Terry Gould ran side by side for second and third. Jeff Stevenson powered to the outside of Christine Martin to take over position number three while Stevenson continued his charge to the front of the field. Stevenson then moved under Brad Winters in the middle of turns three and four to take over the second position while Mark Webb sat at the front of the field. Brandon Hagan stuffed his car to the bottom side of the speedway as he powered under Brad Winters for the fourth position. As the checkered flag dropped, Mark Webb would collect the win while Jeff Stevenson and Brandon Hagan would complete the top three. Brandon Sweet took the Sportsman track championship.
