'BAREFOOT' BOB McCREADIE VISITS VICTORY LANE AT CAN-AM MOTORSPORTS PARK

LaFARGEVILLE, NY...'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie held off Pat O'Brien on a last lap restart to record the win in Saturday night's 30-lap DIRT Modified feature event at Caprara's Can-Am Motorsports Park in a program presented by Advantage Auto Stores, Exiss Trailers, and Real Rock 100.7 FM. Frank Caprara grabbed the win in the DIRT 358 Modified feature event. Lance Willix was the winner in the 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature, while brothers Rob and Rich Keller crossed the line one-two in the IMCA Modified feature event. Dave Mannise took the win in the Pure Stock feature.

McCreadie took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap DIRT Modified feature event with Alan Johnson settling into second. After Frank Caprara slid off the end of the backstretch on the opening lap, the yellow didn't fly until lap 14. During the green flag laps, McCreadie opened up his lead while brothers Pat and Danny O'Brien were charging toward the front of the field. Also moving up was David Hebert, who was looking to collect the DealMaker Back To Back Challenge Bonus of $4,300.

As McCreadie continued to hold the lead, Bill Gill charged into the top four, with Pat O'Brien following. O'Brien's car was the quickest on the track in the final third of the race, and he took the runner-up spot from Johnson just before the yellow flew a final time on lap 29. McCreadie held off O'Brien's attempts to steal the lead on the final lap to record the feature win, Johnson took third, with Hebert in fourth and Bill Gill in fifth.

DIRT Modified heats were won by Johnson and Caprara.

Gus Schmidt took the early lead at the start of the 25-lap DIRT 358 Modified feature event, only to surrender the lead to Brian McDonald at the end of the first lap. McDonald began to pull away and build up a big advantage over the Schmidt machine while Alan Johnson, David Hebert, and Frank Caprara started moving up through the field.

A lap 11 caution for Willy Decker's spin in turn two bunched the field and allowed Schmidt to steal the lead back from McDonald on the restart. Caprara jumped into the top five and began picking off positions as well as Hebert and Johnson. Caprara moved past McDonald and then got under Schmidt in turn four on lap 15.

Once in front, Caprara was not headed, taking his first checkered flag of 2004 at Can-Am. Schmidt held o the the runner-up spot with Hebert taking third.

DIRT 358 Modified heats were won by John Lessore and McDonald.

The 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature began with Scott Goodrich jumping into the top spot with Scott Webb in tow. Webb and Goodrich battled intensely while Lance Willix climbed into the third spot just past the halfway point.

A lap 12 caution involving Matt Butler, Bob Bennett, and Ryan Poole bunched the field, and on the restart, Willix stormed into the top spot, holding the lead through a final restart with four laps to go to claim the win. Goodrich held on to second by a scant half car length at the line as Marcel Pecore nearly stole the position away at the line. Scott Webb and Shawn Donath completed the top five. DIRT Sportsman heats were won by Webb and Goodrich.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature event began with Rich Keller taking the lead, then losing it to Jake Rabetoy while Rob Keller slid into third spot. While Rabetoy and Rich Keller battled for the top spot, Larry Bezner moved into the fourth position.

Further back in the field, a wild battle involved Paul Calhoun, Neal Edgar, Dale Caswell, and many others as they rain side by side for many laps. The race was halted by a red flag on lap 13 when a quick passing shower made the track slick. After a brief delay, the track was dried and racing continued.

On the restart, Rabetoy tried to hold off both Kellers, but first Rob, then Rich were able to slip past. Paul Calhoun also found some bite in the final laps as he stormed into third on a lap 18 restart, but could not pass the Keller duo.

At the finish, Rob Keller had his first win of the 2004 season with brother rich in second. Calhoun was third, followed by Bezner and Rabetoy.

IMCA Modified heats were won by Rich Keller, Edgar, and Calhoun.

The Pure Stock 15-lap feature began with a pileup on the original green that ended the night for Chuck Cushman. Mike Cousins took the lead as the race restarted, but Dave Mannise took the lead on lap 3.

After a lap 5 restart, Mannise held the lead with Cousins being chased by David Pope in third and Dion Oakes holding the fourth spot. The top four battled strong to the finish with Mannise holding on for the feature win. Cousins was second, followed by Pope, Oakes, and George Sanford.

Pure Stock heats were won by Jason Gilmore, Aikins, and Cushman.

Next Saturday night at 7 p.m. CFM Foods presents the DIRT Modifieds, 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, and Pure Stocks at Caprara's Can-Am Motorsports Park.
