Wiggle 100 Night Results

Redline Raceway played host to another great night of exciting racing action. Mike Powers and Connie Boyles from Wiggle 100 were on hand for a live remote broadcast. Wiggle 100 was also the sponsor for the night's racing action.

The top of the order was first to compete in the qualifying heats. The Big Block Small Block Modifieds were on deck first to qualify for their feature event. Shawn Reimert from Oley, Pa., and Mike Schane of Lake Ariel, Pa., took the heat wins for the Modifieds. The Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds were on deck next Sean Lias of Westfield, Pa., and Mike Smith from Arkport, NY., each took heat victories. The Street Stocks tired their luck at qualifying Eric Matthews Trout Run, Pa. And Al Silvernail Elmira, NY., each took their heats. Ernie Martin from Troy, Pa., and Terry Potrzebowski, Elmira, NY., both taking heat wins. Last but not least were the Mini Stocks. Doug Colton, Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., and Jim Vannoy, Leona, Pa., each took a win in their qualifying heats.

After a very brief intermission the Big Block Small Block Modifieds were summoned to the staging area. The Modified feature field was lead onto the Raceway by the "POP's" pace truck piloted by Mr. Cameron May. Dan West of Montour Falls, NY., and Bob Silvernail, Gillette, Pa., led the field to the green. Caution flew early as the 55 of Silvernail lost the handle in turn number 3. Silvernail retired to the pits for the evening. Chris Clemens led the first circuit around but caution came out this time for the point leader Mike Schane and his team mate Brian Malcolm as they were tangled up in turn 2. Green flag racing resumed but only for 1 lap as caution came out again for a spin in turn 2 by Dan West. George Kostelansky from Susquehanna, Pa., with Clemens in second led the field to the green once again. The 9cat of Tony Harris from Painted, Post, NY., worked to the inside of of Clemens off turn 2 for the second position. Meanwhile back in the pack Mike Schane shot to the outside of Mike "Action" Jackson off turn 4 for the sixth spot. The M16 not done yet made a move to the inside of George Suprik to take over the 4th running position off turn 2. Caution plagued the Modified feature field again for a spin by Suprik in turn 4. The ensuing restart saw the Kostelansky machine leading Harris second and Mike Schane shooting low off turn 4 overtook Clemens for 3rd. With the laps winding down Harris looked like he was going to make a run at the leader Kostelansky. The white flag waved and Harris took a shot at the leader in turn 1, Kostelansky pulled the 9cat off the second turn and stayed out front. Harris layed back a bit and then entering turn 3 Harris took another shot at the leader and pulled even off turn 4. Kostelansky held on by less than half a car length to take the victory, Harris a close second and Schane who climbed back through the field took third.

The Big Block Small Block Modified leaders were timed by radar as running 123 mph., on the front stretch, and corner speed of 72 mph. That folks is what we call hauling the mail!!!!!

Next to invade the Raceway were the Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds. Jay Shrout, of Beaver Dams, NY., and Ty Hurlbut, of Chamung, NY., led the Nationally Sanctioned field to the green. Hurlbut was scored the leader for the first circuit then a caution waved over the field for the 18s who appeared to have problems in turn 4. The restart saw the Hurlbut machine still leading with Dangerous Don Cole second and the X factor Larry Robbins third. Robbins charged hard to the inside of Hurlbut off turn 3 for the lead on lap 4. Robbins in command suddenly lost the handle in turn 1 and collected the Don Cole machine and Mark Griffin. The lead went back to Hurlbut with Smith and Lias running second and third. Scott Bennett slid to the inside of Lias on lap 5 off turn 3 for third, Bennett like a rocket ran down Smith and moved into second spot by lap 6. Caution waved again for the Robbins X factor who spins in turn 1 and collects Rick Hunsinger and Mark Griffin. Robbins retired to the pits. Mike Smith Scott Bennett and Lias running nose to tail when a caution came out once again. Running off turn 4 Mark Griffin went up in smoke as his engine let go, and the 11k drifted into the infield. The restart saw Bennett putting big time pressure on Mike Smith for the lead. Bennett inside Smith off turn 4 would capture the top spot as Lias tried to move around Smith for second. Bennett once out in front drove away from Lias and went on to take the victory. Lias crosses the stripe in second and Ty Hurlbut finishes with a good run in third. The I.M.C.A. Modifieds were clocked by radar as 107mph. On the straights and 70mph in the turns. Very fast lap times for the I.M.C.A.'s.

The Street Stocks were next to show what they had. The winner of the event would take home $600. Steve Sharpsteen from Waverly, NY., and Al Silvernail, from Elmira, NY., led the Street Stock feature field to the green. Lap one Silvernail rockets ahead as Dale Baldwin moves quickly into second position. Then Baldwin dives to the inside of Silvernail off turn 1 and springs out in front moving Silvernail back to second. After a caution waved for a spin by Josh Conklin of Chemung, NY., Baldwin was still the leader. Turn 4 was the hot spot as Eric Matthews, Ed Sites and Al Silvernail went at it 3 wide off the turn. Mckernan working over Silvernail in turn 2 moved inside down the back stretch then to the outside off turn 4 and took overt he 4th position from Silvernail. Matthews swings to the outside of Baldwin off corner 4 to take the lead by lap 8. Caution waved on lap 9 for a Silvernail spin in turn 4. Matthews still the leader as Sites and McKernan ran door to door down the back stretch on lap 12, McKernan edges ahead of Sites off 4 and takes over the second position. Lap 16 saw some incredible action as Baldwin went to the inside of Sites on the back straight , Sites and Baldwin battled for 3 action packed laps, Sites moved back in front of Baldwin off 4. Baldwin bumped Sites and ended up going around in turn 2. With 2 laps remaining Matthews took the green, and got a good jump to stay out in front. Sites and Mckernan were not done racing hard just yet. Sites jumped to the inside of McKernan on the final lap but McKernan held on to finish 2nd., with Sites a very close third. Matthews took the win for the second consecutive week and also took home the $600 winning prize money. The Street Stocks were clocked by radar as 103mph. down the straights and 62 in the corners. Very impresive times by the Street Stocks.

The Pure Stocks roared onto the Raceway next. Mike Chilson of Towanda, Pa., and Ernie Martin, also from Troy, Pa., led the Pure Stock feature field to the green. Ernie Martin blasted out front early and led the first trip around. Meanwhile Potrzebowski quickly slid into the third spot. Then Potrzebowski dashed to the inside of Shannon Oswald off the second turn and battled hard for the next 2 laps. The veteran Potrzebowski overtook Oswald off turn 4 for the second running position. Caution flew for the 4g of Josh Parker as he spun in turn 2 . The restart saw Martin being challanged for the lead by Potrzebowski, Martin held off the hard charging Potrzebowki and was able to stay out front. Martin leading spins in turn 1 on lap 10. Potrzebowski inherits the lead with Oswald second and Gene Sharpsteen moving up to third. With Potrzebowski still leading Nick Robinson now in second and Sharpsteen third, Sharpsteen takes a look inside Robinson for second, they battle side by side for 2 laps and the young Robinson outguns the Sharpsteen machine and maintains second position. Potrzebowski took the victory Robinson second and Sharpsteen crossing the stripe third. The Pure Stocks were clocked at 97 mph straight away speed by radar.

The Mini Stocks were last to compete on Wiggle 100 night. Shane Hickok from Canton, Pa., and Mike Navone of Canton also, led the Mini's to the start. Caution plagued the field early on the first lap. Jim Vannoy collected Doug Colton down the back straight and half the field piled up heading into turn 3. Hickok led the field to the green and Eric Ellsworth from Troy, Pa., shot around Hickok and took the lead. Caution came out on lap 8 for a spin by Jason Shaw. Ellsworth still the leader, Travis Parks running second and Doug Colton working his way through the field ran in third. Colton off turn 2 challanged Parks for 2nd spot, Colton now in second had his eyes set on the leader. Laps 13 and 14 Colton and Ellsworth battled hard for the top spot, and the Colton machine took over the top of the field. Caution flew on lap 14 as Parks spins Ellsworth off turn 4. Colton continued to lead with Jim Vannoy now in second and Natasha Robinson third. Robinson made a last lap dash at Vannoy off turn 4 but as Colton went on to win Vannoy held on to second spot by less than a car length over Robinson who finishes third............
