Redeline Raceway Ken Buck Sr. Memorial Night. July 7th

Redline Raceway played host to another full house on Friday evening. The night was dedicated to Ken Buck Sr. who was a racer himself, and he started his racing career with the track promoter Barry Matthews Sr. The night was also dedicated in memory of Ken Buck's late cousin David Buck..

First order of business would be the qualifying heats. The I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds would be up first. The 96 of Mike Smith would take the 1st heat win, with Sean Lias in his 37 taking the second heat victory. The Street Stocks heat winners were the 15 of Ed Sites and the 83 of Ed McKernan. Pure Stock heat winners would be the 3 of Shannon Oswald, and the M13 of Ernie Martin. The Mini Stocks would see the 36 of Larry Colton take the first heat then the 36x of Doug Colton would win the second Mini Stock heat. The Big Block Small Block Modifieds would take to the track last and the 9 Cat of Tony Harris would cap the first heat and the M16 of Mike Schane would win the second heat.

During intermission the Family of Ken Buck Sr. released balloons as a short speech was read and a moment of silence was observed in Kenny's memory.

The Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds then charged onto the raceway for their feature. The field would be competing for 500 dollars to take the win. The drop of the green saw the C4 of Ty Hurlbut from Chemung, NY., lead the first lap. Caution would wave for the 33R of Ricky Hunsinger from Stevensville, Pa., who spun in turn 3. The 96 of Mike Smith from Arkport, NY., took the lead from the C4 of Hurlbut on lap 3 . Sean Lias in his 37 would move up to second and charge hard trying to keep pace with Smith. Caution would wave once again on lap 7 for the 01 of Josh Sawyer, who lost the handle in turn one. The Smith machine would rocket ahead on the restart and go on to collect the 500 dollars as the checkers flew. Lias would capture second with the 18s of Scott Bennett crossing the stripe in third.

The Street Stocks were next to challenge the raceway. The 4 of Joe Bennett lead the field for a pace lap in memory of his late cousin Ken Buck Sr. The 4 would then drop back into his starting position. The 8 of Steve Sharpsteen fromWaverly, NY., would lead the field to the green. The 97 of Dale Baldwin from Columbia X Rds., Pa., would lead lap one. The point leader Ed Sites would move up to second by lap 7 making a low pass off turn 4. Sites then would move alongside the 97 of Baldwin where they would battle side by side for the lead. The 15 would pull out in front by lap 9 and never look back. Sites would capture his second victory in a row at Redline. The 83 of Ed McKernan would cross the stripe in second and the 97 of Baldwin would settle for third.

The Pure Stocks were on deck next. The 111 of Brad Smith from Troy, Pa., would lead the field to the green flag. Lap one the 01 of Brad Butcher from Granville, Pa., would lead the lap followed by the 3 of Shannon Oswald. The 01 and the 3 would battle hard door to door for 3 laps then the 3 of Oswald would charge ahead on lap 7 as he made the pass for first low off turn 4 dropping Butcher to second. Caution would come out on lap 10 for a spin by the 4g of Josh Parker, and the 72 of Terry Potrzebowski, in turn one. Lap 15 the 3 of Oswald was the leader and the M13 of Ernie Martin would hold second and the 01 of Butcher in third. Lap 17 Nick Robinson would lose the handle in turn one and the caution would fly. The 3 of Oswald would hold off the rest of the field and take the win followed by the M13 of Martin and the 01 of Butcher crossing in third.

The Mini Stocks were next to try their luck. The P2 of Travis Parks would lead the field to the green. The Parks machine would lead lap one. The P3 of Jay Vannoy would get turned around in turn 4 by the 47 of Clyde Gardner. The third lap the P2 of Parks was turned on the front stretch by the 16 of Jay Cummings, Cummings would be asked to go pitside. The 36x of Doug Colton would inherit the lead from there and he would not look back as Colton built up a half track lead on second place Larry Colton in his 36. The 36x would go on to capture the victory and the 36 of Larry Colton crossing in second with the P1 of Jim Vannoy taking third.

The Big Block Small Block Modifieds were on tap next. The 55 of Bob Silvernail would lead the field. The green flew and the 55s of Shawn Reimert went for a wild ride down the backstretch as he went sideways and stopped in the infield. The 55s would take his machine to the pits. The field went green once again and this time Tony Harris went for a ride down the backstretch in almost the same manner as the 55s. Harris would suffer a right rear flat. Both machines would make it back out without losing a lap. The green would fly again and the 55 of Bobby Silvernail would lead lap one. The caution would come out again as the 55s and the 83two would tangle in turn one. The M16 of Mike Schane would charge outside of the 55 for second spot on lap 6, those two would tangle in turn one and the caution would fly once again. The leader would be the 81 of Don Silvernail on the restart of lap 6. The 19 of Brent Boyer from Bloomsburg, Pa., would challenge for the lead on lap 10. The 19 would sling to the inside of the 81 and capture the lead from the Silvernail machine. Lap 14 the Harris machine would move under the 81 of Silvernail and take second spot while the 55s followed and took third from the 81. Brent Boyer would go on to take the checkers followed by the 9Cat of Harris and taking third would be the 55s of Shawn Reimert.

Next week it will be P.D. Pepper and Family Night at the Raceway. Kiddie Rides at intermission. Also the Mid State Antique Stock Cars will be on hand to put on a show for all the great Redline Raceway fans.
