Redline Raceway June 30th

The weather finally gave the Redline crew a break and after 3 weeks of silence, the track came to life for Les Guilliume's Plumbing and Heating Night. The night was also Mid Season Championship Night for all 5 exciting classes.

The pits were full of cars and the stands were full as well and the huge crowd on hand was treated to some great racing action.

The night started with a powerful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner performed by Mrs. Vicki Ward of Troy, Pa. Then the cars took to the track for their qualifying heats.

The Big Block Small Block Modifieds were first on deck and the M 16 of Mike Schane took the first heat win. The second heat victory went to the 9 Cat of Tony Harris. Next up were the I.M.C.A Sunoco Modifieds. Larry Robbins in his X factor took the first heat win and Mike Smith in the 96 took the second heat win. The Street Stocks were next and the 97 of Dale Baldwin took the heat win with the 15 of Ed Sites taking the second heat win. The Pure Stocks saw the 83 of Nick Robinson take the 1st heat win with the M13 of Ernie Martin take the second heat victory and the 72 of Terry Potrzebowski taking the third heat win. The Minis were up last and the 36x of Doug Colton took the 1st heat win and the 14 of Eric Ellsworth took the second heat victory.

After a very brief intermission the feature events were ready to go. The Big Block Small Block Modifieds charged onto the track first. The current point leader starting the evening was the 55s of Shawn Reimert from Oley, Pa. The 9 Cat of Tony Harris was second in the points chase and the 55s and the 9 Cat started in the front row. The caution flew early as the 93 of Donny Lawson from Addison, NY., tangled with the 21 of Chris Clemens from Waverly in turn one. The 21 would retire to the pits. The the green dropped only to be followed by another yellow on lap one. 5 cars tangled in turn one. The M16 of Schane took the lead from the 55s by lap 3 and never looked back. The M16 took his second victory and Reimert followed across the stripe for second and Harris in the 9 Cat took home third.

Next to invade the speedway were the Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds. Sean Lias from Westfield, Pa., would start on the pole and the X of Larry Robbins from Knoxville, Pa., would start on the outside of the front row. Lias paced the field to the green flag and he would lead lap one. The 96 of Mike Smith from Arkport, NY., took over the lead on lap 3 and dominated the field from there. Smith built up a straightaway advantage over Lias by lap 10 and took the checkers. Lias finished 2nd with Larry Robbins crossing the stripe in third.

The Street Stocks were up next and point leader Ed Sites lead the field to the green. Caution would fly at the start for a 4 car tangle in turn 2. The 10 machine of Brandon Ameigh lost the handle entering turn 2 and collected the 4 of Joe Bennett, 13 of Wayne Baldwin, 8 of Steve Sharpsteen, and the 4x of Ted Hill. The green would fly once again and caution would fly on lap 1 for a tangle with 3 machines in turn two once again. The green came out once again and caution would fly on lap 6 for the 00Jr. of Joe Reeves from Geneoa, NY., for a engine failure. Sites led the field to the green again and on lap 10 the 83 of Ed McKernan shot under the 5 of Al Silvernail in turn 3 for second but the 83 would slow in turn 4 on lap 13 for an apparent mechanical failure. The restart saw the 15 of Sites get a great jump on the second place machine of Matthews. With just 1 lap remaining the 11 was reeling in the 15 but Sites held on by just 1 car length to take the victory. Matthews second with Al Silvernail taking third.

The Pure Stock were up next. The 83 of Nick Robinson led the full field to the green. The 72 of Potrzebowski would lead lap one, putting Robinson to second. After a caution on lap 7 for a 2 car spin in turn 1 the 72 would still lead the pack . Lap 8 the 71 of Tin Gullo passed the 01 of Brad Butcher putting the 71 up to third spot. After several more cautions the 72 was still the leader but the 83t of Rich Sharpsteen moved into second spot. The 72 and the 83t would have a fantastic battle the last 2 laps and the 72 was able to hold off the Sharpsteen machine and take the victory. Sharpsteen finishing second with the M13 of Ernie Martin crossing the stripe in third.

Last but not least were the Minis. The 36x of Doug Colton the current points leader would lead the field to the green. Caution would fly as the 36 of Larry Colton tapped the 36x and sent him spinning. They would both have to restart in the back of the field. The 14 of Eric Ellsworth would then inherit the lead. The 36x would climb back through the field with the help of some cautions. The 36x would pass the 14 of Ellsworth on lap 9 to retake the lead and go on to take the victory. Natasha Robinson would finish in second by a bumper and also over came a flat tire early in the feature . and the 14 of Ellsworth came home in third.

Redline will host Ken Buck Memorial night next Friday evening. The I.M.C.A. Modifieds will also be running for $500 to take the win. Gates open at 5 warm ups at 7 racing starts at 8. www.redlineraceway.net 570-673-3176 570-364-8384.
