CORNWALL-There's a reason they call him Mr. Small Block. Pete Bicknell thrilled a standing room only crowd at Cornwall Motor Speedway winning the traditional Labour Day classic, the Jiffy 100, at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, part of the Super DIRT Series for 358 Modifieds.

The night didn't get off to a promising start for Bicknell, who time trailed 24th and failed to qualify through his heat. Things began to improve in his Consi as the Merrittville Speedway Promoter began to pick up the pace enough to start from the 20th spot in the feature. While Brian McDonald was dominating the race in a sometimes torrid battle with Dale Planck, Bicknell was methodically working his way through the field moving into the second spot with 30 laps to go. Opportunity came on the lap 78 restart and the former Syracuse winner from St. Catherines powered past McDonald on the inside and led the rest of the way. McDonald who ran the final 35 laps with no brakes had to settle for second. Yannick Ledoux claimed a qualifying spot for Syracuse as he charged through the field for third spot in front of Dave Heaslip and Pierre Dagenais.

There were a few anxious moments after Roy Tarbell flipped three times landing on the fence in turn 1. No one was injured in the mishap. Dale Planck set a new track 358 Modified record for the fast quarter mile in time trials clocking in at 12.990 seconds. Planck was a factor until his engine let go with 25 laps to go. Planck, however by taking time clinched his second straight Modified track title at Cornwall
