REIMERT AND MERKEL WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 28, 2005 . . . Shawn Reimert wanted to prove to doubters that he could still win a NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway and he did just that on Saturday night and he did it in grand style picking up $2200 for his winning efforts in the 30-lap event that started 30 cars.

The 20-lap feature race for NASCAR Late Models went, for the second time this season, to Sean Merkel wheeling the Pheasantland Roller Rink #118 to victory.

Crashfest is what would best describe the first nine laps of the NASCAR Modified feature with no less than 10 cautions during the early part of the race. The field was cut from 30 starters down to just 18 still able to run with nine laps complete.

Oley racer Reimert, driving the Saracino owned/Kochel Equipment sponsored No. 91 modified, went to the front after just four laps of the 30-lap feature. Early leader Tommy Sheetz settled in to second as the crashfest took its toll lap after lap.

With 10 laps in the record book and the field getting a single file restart after a caution Reimert stayed in control charging well out in front leading all the remaining laps. Only a caution brought on by a Danny Erb spin on the 29th lap allowed the field to close up on the leader for a final lap shootout. Rick Schaffer made a bold bid to get by Reimert in turn three but fell short with the veteran driver getting his first win of the season. Jeff Strunk, now the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series champion for 2005, took second getting by Schaffer as the two flew off the fourth turn toward the finish line. The Bethel, PA racer is now a five time Grandview champion. Third went to Rick Schaffer (Woxall) followed by Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) and Keith Bright bill (Mohnton).

In victory lane Reimert thanked his owners, crew and sponsors and talked about winning the championship at Clearfield, PA Speedway on Friday night. Reimert won at least seven features at Clearfield and fans at Grandview had been riding him about not winning at the Bechtelsville oval. He feels his Saturday night win should quiet the critics.

Terry Meitzler earned the Tom Oates Chevy Hard Charger award worth $100 for coming from 28th starting position to take sixth.

The 20-lapper for the Late Models saw Sean Merkel charge past early leader Junior Grebe on the seventh lap and lead all the rest of the laps making his second win of the season look easy.

The Late Models put on caution free show with Lansdale’s Mike Kellner finishing second to the Gilbertsville based Merkel. Third spot went to Junior Grebe (Gilbertsville) followed by John Giesler (Aston) and Buddy Wharton (Birdsboro).

Ron Kline wrapped up his first NASCAR Late Model track championship getting an eighth place finish in the main event.

Qualifying heat wins for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds were won by Shawn Reimert, Barry Readinger, Cliff Quinn, Tom Sheetz, and Craig VonDohren. The consolation races were won by Mike Gular, Ed Scott and Mike Bailey with the Cheers Tavern Cash Dash, worth $300, going to Craig VonDohren.

In Late Model preliminaries the wins were earned by Merkel, Kellner and Brian Shuey while the Jim Brown Cash Dash went to Mike Kellner.

Lap sponsorships for the T.H.Properties Freedom 76 (September 10) are now available at $10 and $25 a lap. The lap sponsorship money goes to the leader of the lap sponsored. The $25 lap sponsors will receive a big mention in the special Freedom 76 program book and public address announcements.
