MEITZLER AND GREBE WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SATURDAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JULY 24, 2005 . . . Former track NASCAR Modified champion Terry Meitzler ended a long dry spell when he was able to wheel the Rychlik Trucking #712 Modified to victory in the 30-lap American Dental Services NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. And in the companion 20 lapper for NASCAR Late Models Junior Grebe lead just about all the laps to grab the win his first of the season.
Barry Readinger shot to the front of the 29 car starting field in the 30-lap main event for NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds. An early race accident in the fourth turn put fan favorite Doug Manmiller and his American Dental Services #00 entry out of the race.
On the seventh circuit with Readinger still in front Meme DeSantis and a number of others got caught up in a multi car accident in the firsr turn eliminating a couple of the top runners including Keith Brightbill and DeSantis.
On the restart after the caution Mike Bailey went to the front of the field and set the pace until the 19th lap when Terry Meitzler, coming from 12th starting spot, was able to take control with Bailey and Craig VonDohren, coming from 14th, following.
VonDohren looked like he was going to be able to give Meitzler a strong run for the win but on the 26th circuit the five time track champion got caught up in someone else’s mistake and was eliminated from the race.
Meitzler was able to hold on to the first spot and gain his first win since August 30, 2003. The Kutztown, PA racer was just a narrow margin in front of four time track champion and current point leader Jeff Strunk (Bethel) who came home second. Third spot went to former track champion Tom Mayberry (Sellersville) for his best effort of the season. Kenny Gilmore (Fleetwood) came on strong in the closing laps to gain a fourth followed by early leader Mike Bailey (Kutztown).
With his strong second place finish Strunk maintains a “death grip” on the point lead in the chase for the lucrative NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified championship.
In the 20-lapper for NASCAR Late Models Junior Grebe (Gilbertsville) was quick away from the starting line and lead the 24 car starting field until the 11th lap when Sean Merkel was able to move by for the lead. However the lead was short liver for Merkel and Grebe got back in front on a caution restart just two laps later.
Once in front Grebe and his Zern’s Farmers Market entry were able to hold off all challenges from Merkel and go on to victory. Merkel (Gilbertsville) finished second followed by Brian Shuey (Hamburg), Dean Schaeffer (Birdsboro) and Harry Neiman (Bower Beach, DE).
Ron Kline, despite an off night that saw him finish 10th, was able to hold on to his point lead in the Late Model championship chase.
The complete show, 16 stock car racing events, was completed by 10:30 p.m.
Late model qualifying event victories were earned by Sean Merkel, Junior Grebe and Brian Shuey while Greg Hoffmaster celebrated his birthday with a victory in the Consolation race. The Jim Brown Cash Dash was won by Grebe giving him a Clean Sweep for the night’s events.
In NASCAR Modified qualifying action the wins were taken by Jon Kellner, Tom Umbenhauer, Larry Solomon, Kerry Kratz and Craig VonDohren. Consolation events were won by Jimmy Reppert, Kevin Hartnett and Keith Brightbill while the Cheers Tavern Cash Dash was won by VonDohren.
