LEE LADOUCEUR VISIT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY WIN LANE
Sophomore Lee Ladouceur captured his first feature win of the season in the modifieds before another full house Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway.
The Maxville driver took over the lead from veteran Pierre Dagenais with only two laps remaining in the special 50 lapper which saw eleven caution flags. Dagenais left from post nine at the starting line and didn’t waste time on the gas at the drop of the green flag taking the lead at lap ten with Ladouceur in hot pursuit. Ladouceur took advantage of a late restart to take the lead and finally break the ice.
Ladouceur was visibly very happy in the winners circle and he gave Pierre Dagenais all the credit he deserved after a well fought battle right to the end. ‘’ Pierre gave all he could out there and he drove a great race but I took advantage of the late restart. I know how he feels, I also lost races in the same way, that’s the way it his in this game’’ said the sporty driver in the post race interview from the winners circle.
Dave Heaslip, Eric Gauvreau and Laurent Ladouceur were third, fourth and fifth respectively. Father and son duo of Laurent and Lee Ladouceur along with rookie of the year Perry Francis won the qualifying heats.
Denis Gauvreau won his second feature of the season finishing on top of Alexandria ’s Marc Therrien and Aylmer ’s Michel Dupuis in the Late Model Pro Stock category. With 13 cars in front of him at the starting line, Gauvreau was sitting on top of the twenty car field mid way into the twenty lap affair and it was a done deal from then on. Akwasane’s Mitchell Jacques and Mathieu Beaudoin rounded out the fast five while Gauvreau, Alain Coursol and Dave Bissonnette were winners in the qualifying preliminaries.
In the eight cylinders, Dominic Gauvreau picked up where he left off last week by taking his second checkered flag of the season. Serge Lagace and Gilbert Mongeon completed the podium while Richard Brady and Luc Larocque rounded out the top five. Mongeon and Michel Robert won the qualifying heats.
Carl Soucy was again the winning driver in the four cylinders when he crossed the finish stripe in front of Martin Jacques and Wakefield ’s Erin Joyce in second and third spot respectively. Martin Vienneau and Alain St-Pierre rounded out the fast five. Soucy, St-Pierre and Nico Leblanc previously won the qualifying preliminaries.
Here is a point of general interest, Edelweiss Speedway coordinator Sylvain Mercier will become the very first Canadian official ever to work the Black Rock and Knoxville Iowa race courses next week in the Tournament of Champion where 300 Sprint cars are expected to be rounded up.
Action resumes Friday August 8 at Edelweiss Speedway where it will be Family night at the races. Fans will be greeted with gifts and a magic show and besides the full regular program a race for lawn tractors is also on the slate. The green flag drops at 7:45 sharp.
