GILL INCHES CLOSER TO THE QUAD AT BROCKVILLE

BROCKVILLE, ONT - Lee Gill hasn’t dominated the Modified division the way he has in the past couple of seasons at Brockville Ontario Speedway. However, he blew away the field and inched closer to his fourth consecutive track title taking the 30 lap 358 feature on Friday night at the fast quarter mile oval.

Gill survived numerous cautions especially late in the race by turning laps consistently in the 14.5 range around the quarter mile oval. The Lefargeville, New Tork pilot was even faster in winning his heat race with 14.1 second laps. Gill was so dominant on this night, that despite the final restart coming with 3 laps to go, he had a 2.3 second lead over second place Jeff Sykes when the checkered flag fell.

Bill Gill finished third followed by Mark Hitchcock and Stephane LaFrance who all took advantage of a late race miscue by Chris Herbison who fell back to sixth in the closing laps.

After one quick early race caution it was green flag to the end in the 20 lap Sportsman main. Cardinal’s Jason Riddell led all the way picking up his third win of the year in a race that took under 8 and a half minutes from start to finish. Dave Wilgosh was a distant second in front of Kyle Dingwall, Ben Tucker and Jason Potter.

There were a couple of first time winners in the Novice and Rookie divisions. Shane Ray of Heuvelton NY held off a late challenge from Peter Stapper for his first ever 15 lap Novice win. Robin Perrin was third with Barry Baker and Ryan Poole rounding out the fast five.

Cornwall’s Bob Ray, who smacked the wall in his last Brockville adventure drove to the 10 lap Rookie honours by a large margin over Dave Blue. Don Hall was in third after a wild final lap which featured a number of skirmishes with Dan Lortie and Kurtis McPhee making up the remainder of the top five.

The Speedway will be back in operation on Friday Night, August 15th at 7:30 pm for second and final appearance of the season for the always popular winged warriors, the Empire Super Sprints along with the Modifieds, Novice and Rookies.
