BRIAN MACDONALD SCORES SECOND MODIFIED WIN AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY

Brian ‘’Slim’’ MacDonald won the modified feature before the largest crowd of the season Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway.

The very popular Cornwall driver took the green flag sitting sixth but rapidly gained ground to finally take the lead from last week’s winner Peter Mantha at lap 28 to register his second title of this season in a fast paced 30 lapper. Veteran Dave ‘’The Slip’’ Heaslip of Smiths Falls completed the winning trio. Alexandria’s Laurent Ladouceur and defending champion Pierre Dagenais completed the fast five and by doing so, they both clinched a spot in Tuesday night’s 100-lap Canadian Dirt Challenge in Granby.

Mantha and Dagenais each had previously won a leg of the qualifying heats and after nine weeks of action at the Val des Monts oval, Laurent Ladouceur holds a slim lead of only seven points over Pierre Dagenais in the drivers standing.

In the Late Model Pro Stock category, Eric Gauvreau was the pacesetter when flagman Steve Salvas waived the checkered at the conclusion of the 20-lap affair. It was Gauvreau’s fifth trip to the winners circle this season but his closest rival Stephane Lebrun sure gave him a run for his money. Mont-Laurier’s Alain Coursol rounded out the fast three. Gauvreau and Mitchell Jock each won a leg of the preliminary races.

It was all Dominic Gauvreau again in the eight-cylinders when the Gatineau driver claimed the checkered for the eighth time in nine outings. Veteran Dave Noganosh and newcomer Richard Brady were second and third respectively. Carl Soucy had to make a come back to score his fifth win this year in the four cylinders. Jacky St-Arnaud who also won a heat of the qualifiers and Dany Larose rounded out the top three. Nico Leblanc of Gatineau won the other qualifying heat.

Nicolas Gauvreau won the Demolition Derby over last year’s winner, Marcel Baron.

There will be another card of exciting races next Friday night, July 19 at Edelweiss Speedway where, besides a complete and full program including a 30-lap feature for Modifieds, the very popular Empire Super Sprints will be part of the show. The action is post timed at 7:45.
