BRIAN DUMIGAN SCORES EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS WIN AT EDLEWEISS SPEEDWAY
Edelweiss Speedway played host to Empire Super Sprints Friday night before a sell-out crowd at the Val des Monts oval and Brian Dumigan was part of the show and made his presence felt by winning his third ESS feature of the season.
The Liverpool N.Y. driver did it in classy style by taking an early lead that he never relinquished in the 24-car field to top Canadian driver Ryan Coniam who ended second and Mike Stelter who rounded out the top three. Bill Coffey was fourth and crowd favourite, Alain Bergeron of Bagot Qué, completed the fast five. Jeff VanDusen who lost his car in a freak mishap in the final, previously won the dash for cash sprint while ESS leading driver Mike Woodring could not take the green flag due to mechanical problems.
In the Modifieds, Brian MacDonald claimed the checkered flag for the third time this season at the Val des Monts oval. The Cornwall driver again came from behind to literally steel first place from young Lee Ladouceur with only two laps remaining in the race scheduled for thirty. Leading driver at Edelweiss Speedway, Laurent Ladouceur ended third and Pierre Dagenais, the defending champion who had a great evening in the Canadian Dirt Challenge 100 at Granby, settled for fourth best while Peter Mantha rounded out the top five.
Eric Gauvreau dominated the Late Model Pro Stock category by registering his sixth win of the season. The Cantley driver who leads the drivers standing, won the checkered flag over Stephane Lebrun in second place and over newcomer, Joey Ladouceur in third place. Gauvreau also won the qualifying preliminary race.
In the eight cylinders, it was all Dominic Gauvreau who claimed his ninth checkered flag in ten outings so far this year. The Gatineau driver seems unbeatable and is comfortably En Route to claim this year’s driver’s championship. Gauvreau won over second place Denis Hamel and third place finisher Claude Laurin.
There will be another great card of racing this coming Tuesday night where besides the regular full program, the second leg of the Canadian Dirt Challenge 100 will take place right here at Edelweiss Speedway. Come and watch Pierre Dagenais who gave quite a show by taking fourth place in a long 100 lapper at Granby in the first leg of the CDC, battle for a share of the 22 000$ that will be up for grabs. Total monies awarded for the Canadian Dirt Challenge is more than 60 000$. The green flag drops at 7:45.
