INVADER TOMKINS WINS OCFS SDS STOP

Middletown, NY: Gary Tomkins of Clifton Springs, NY won his first ever feature at the orange County Fair speedway Thursday night after he took the Milford Chrysler Sales 100 lap Super DIRT Series event for the Big Block modifieds. Besides the $6,000 first place money, Tomkins also collected a guaranteed spot in the Eckerd 200 at Syracuse on Columbus Day weekend.

Taking the top two times in the time trials were invaders Steve Paine and Bob McCreadie. As a result, they did not have to run a heat for

qualifying but would have to be part of the 14 driver pool who would redraw for starting positions.

After the resdraw it was a father and son front row as Bob McCreadie drew the pole and son Tim McCreadie was outside. Tim McCreadie would take the lead at the outset, but Orange County regular Jeff Heotzler took command from his 4th starting position on lap one. Heotzler would hold the point through the first 73 laps. However, it was the 15th starting Tomkins who took over on lap 74 and would lead the rest of the way. Alan Johnson dropped Heotzler to 3rd on lap 78. Both drivers would remain in those positions until the chekered fell. Fourth went to Billy Decker and fifth to Tim Fuller. By virtue of his 3rd place finish, Heotzler moved to within 5 points of track leader Chuck McKee in the 2003 Orange County Fair Speedway points chase. McKee suffered a right rear flat on lap 30 and finished 11th.

In the companion 15 lap Pure Stock feature, Emerson Cargain, Sr. of Mahopac, NY won his first of the season.

Super DIRT Series Point leader Billy Decker had his lead trimmed to 18 as Alan Johnson finished 2nd to Decker's 4th.
