Robinsons Dominate Redline Raceway, Lias Gets First Feature Win .

WTTC 95.3 "The Bridge" was on hand at Redline Raceway Friday evening June 2nd. The weather was anything from perfect but once again the Redline diehards were treated to some great racing action.

The qualifying heats were run first as usual and the 72 of A.J. Potrzebowski took the first Mini Stock heat victory. The 36x of Doug Colton and the 36 of Larry Colton also took heat wins.

The Big Block Small Block Modifieds saw Brian Malcolm in his 119 and Brent Boyer piloting his 19 machine both take heat wins.

The Street Stocks heats went to Ed Sites 15 and the 83 of Eddie McKernan.

Last but not least were the Pure Stocks, Terry Potrzebowski 72 and Brad Butcher 01 both took their respective heat wins.

After a brief intermission the Mini Stocks were ready to go. The winner of the Mini feature would take home $300. Jay Vannoy in his P3 started on the pole from Leona, Pa., with the P2 of Travis Parks of Troy, Pa., outside. The green flew and caution waved over the field on lap 1 for a spin by the 72 of A.J. Potrzebowski. After the restart the 34 of Natasha Robinson from Waverly, NY., took the lead on lap 2. Caution would wave again on lap 4 for a spin by the 61 of Rich Kelly in turn 4. Kelly would suffer 2 rear flat tires. Lap 9 saw the 14 of Eric Ellsworth, of Troy, Pa., run down the leader Robinson and make the pass for the lead, putting the Robinson machine back to second, and the 36x of Doug Colton moving up to third. Caution would wave again on lap 16 for the P1 of Jim Vannoy and the 16 of Jay Cummings as they made contact on the frontstretch, a right front flat would plague the 16 of Cummings. The field tried to restart on lap 9 but mother nature had other ideas, and the rain came down. The track crew quickly responded and brought out several packing vehicles to try to save the track. After about an hour delay the Mini Stocks took to the track again. After the restart the 72 of Potrzebowski from Elmira, NY., took over the lead as the 14 of Ellsworth had trouble in turn 4 bringing out another caution. Lap 18 saw the 72 and the 36 of Larry Colton make contact in turn 4 and both were sent to the pit area. That inherited the lead back to the 34 and Robinson held off the 95 of Mike Navone and the 16 of Jay Cummings to take the $300 victory.

Next up were the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds. The L1 of Lucas Schroth from Elmira, NY., started on the pole with the 55 of Bob Silvernail of Gillette, Pa., to his outside. Schroth would get the jump on the field on the start and lead the first lap. Shawn Reimert from Oley, Pa., starting deep in the field worked his way up to the 5th running position by lap 9. Caution waved over the field for a spin by the 55 of Bob Silvernail who spun in turn 1. Lap 12 the L1 was still the leader with the 119 of Malcolm and the 55s of Reimert running 2nd and third. The Reimert machine took over second spot on lap 13 shooting by the 119 of Malcolm in turn 4. Reimert ran down the young Schroth machine and overtook the L1 for the lead by lap 14. The M16 of Schane moved into the second postion on lap 15 trying to run down Reimert. With 2 laps to go Schane tried to make a charge to overtake the 55s but Reimert held on and made it two feature victories in a row for the 55s, Schane crossing the line in second and the 119 of Malcolm finishing third.

Next on tap were the Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds. Don Buchanan of Lawman, NY., would lead the field to the green. The 11x of Buchanan would lead the first circuit around while the 96 of Arkport's Mike Smith moving into second spot. The 96 however would lose the handle and would spin in turn 4, but he was able to keep going and no caution was needed. Lap 8 the leader was the 08 of Rich Talada of Chemung, NY., with the X factor of Knoxville's Larry Robbins in second with Sean Lias of Westfield, Pa., running third. The X and the 37 of Lias would run side by side on lap 13 then in turn 1 the X factor loses the handle and collects the 96 of Smith and the 11k of Mark Griffin in turn 1. The 08 of Talada tried his best to hold off the 37 of Lias as they ran door to door for lap 14, Lias would edge ahead of Talada on lap 15 off turn 4 and take the lead. Lias would cruise onto the victory with Taldada in second and the 44 of "Dangerous" Don Cole from Canton, Pa., rounding out the top three........

The Street Stocks were on deck next with the 8 machine of Steve Sharpsteen of Waverly on the pole. Lap 1 the Dale Baldwin machine would take over the top spot in his 97. Al Silvernail in his 5 machine from Elmira, NY., would battle with Baldwin and take the lead by lap 3 off turn 2. The 15 of Eddie Sites from Monroeton, Pa., would slide under Silvernail on lap 7 in turn 2 to take the lead. The 11 of Eric Matthews made his way up to 4th on lap 12 making the pass on the low side off turn 4 under the 97 of Baldwin. Matthews from Trout Run, Pa., would run down the Silvernail machine on lap 14 and make the pass for third. The the caution would fly for contact by the 83 of McKernan of Towanda, Pa., and the 15 of Sites in turn two. Matthews would then be spotted as the leader on the restart on lap 15. The 11 would try to hold off the 68 of Rich McNeal as McNeal would edge ahead of Matthews shooting off turn one. Then in turn 2 Matthews would regain the lead, but the 68 would sneak by the 11 and take the victory by half a car length. Matthews finishing second and the 5 of Al Silvernail finishing third.

Last for the night would be the Pure Stocks. The 111 of Brad Smith from Troy, Pa., would start on the pole. The drop of the green saw the 01 of Brad Butcher from Granville, Pa., take the early lead. Caution would fly on lap 2 for the 89 of Dan Wheaton, from Elmira, NY., for a spin in turn 4. The 83 of Nick Robinson made his way up to the second spot on lap 6. The 83 of Robinson from Chemung, NY., battled hard with the 01 of Butcher and the 83 would overtake the 01 for the lead off turn 2. The 83 of Robinson was starting to pull away from the 01 of Butcher when a caution flew on lap 10 for the 111 of Brad Smith who made hard contact with the outside retaining wall down the backstretch.
Several more cautions would plague the Pure Stock class and with 2 laps remaining time would expire as the features have a 30 minute time limit, and Robinson who had a good lead over the 01 of Butcher would take the win, making it two in a row for the youngster from Chemung, NY,. The 01 of Butcher took second and the 3 of Shannon Oswald from Mt. Lake, Pa., took third.
