Mother nature finally gave Redline Raceway a break Friday evening. The weather looked very bad for racing action but it held off until the end of the night.
The qualifying heats were the first order of business and Nick Robinson took his first qualifying heat victory of the season in his number 83 Pure Stock. The next heat victory went to Ray Hyer piloting his number 80.
Doug Colton and Larry Colton both took heat wins in the Minis. The 55s of Shawn Reimert and the 119 of Brian Malcolm took heat wins in the Modified division. The 96 of Mike Smith and the 08 of Rich Talada took heat wins in[img][/img] the I.M.C.A. Modifieds. Rounding out the qualifying heats races were the Street Stock with Al Silvernail and Eddie McKernan taking heat victories.
Kiddie rides were held at intermission and both the drivers and the kids had a great time as the kids were given a pace lap around the raceway riding with their favorite Redline Driver.
The raceway held the First Annual Bill May Memorial Night. A short speech was read at intermission after the kid rides were completed and the family of Bill May released several balloons with his grandchildren and great grandchildren helping. The official pace truck the "POPS" pace truck was dedicated in his memory. Piloting the "POPS" pace truck was Bill's grandson Cameron May.
The feature portion of the evening was up next and the Redline faithful were once again treated to some outstanding feature racing action.
First to invade the raceway were the Pure Stocks. The 111 of Brad Smith started on the pole. Smith would lose the handle on the 111 on lap 1 in corner number 2. The field went green for 2 laps when caution waved again for the 27r of Dave Roberts with a flat tire. Nick Robinson would hold the lead as the 29 of Bobby Maynard would suffer a right rear flat on lap 9, running in second place. Nick Robinson a rookie in the Pure Stocks from Chemung New York, took his first feature victory at Redline. Crossing the stripe in second was the 71x of Tim Gullo a newcomer from Elmira, New York. Taking the checkers in third was the 4g of Josh Parker from Lawman, New York.
Next on tap were the 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks. Natasha Robinson in her 34 machine would lead lap one, caution would fly at lap 7 for the P3 machine of Jay Vannoy for a spin in turn 4. P1 of Jim Vannoy takes the lead on the restart but he would give way to the winner Larry Colton in the 36 from Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. Young Doug Colton in his 36x finishes second to his father and the P1 of Jim Vannoy from Leona ., Pa. takes third.
The Big Block Small Block Modifieds were on deck next. The 9x of Chuck Kennison starting on the outside pole took the early lead. Then a caution flew for the 55s of Shawn Reimert and the 19 of Brent Boyer who got together in turn 4. The next caution flew at lap 10 when the M16 of Mike Schane and the 119 of Brian Malcolm both team mates collect each other on turn 4. The 9 cat of Tony Harris was the leader on lap 11 as the 55s of Reimert was moving through the field quickly after restarting in the round out position after his spin. Reimert and Harris battled for the lead and Reimert took a shot low off turn 4 forcing Harris to the outside and took the lead heading into turn one. A late caution came out on lap 24 for the 119 of Malcolm and the 55 of Bob Silvernail , and the 81 of Don Silvernail who all tangled in turn two.
The green and white flags flew with Harris having 1 lap to try to take back the lead, but the 55s of Reimert was too much and the win went to Reimert with Harris very close in second and rounding out the top 3 was the 9x of Chuck Kennison.
Next on Deck were the Nationally Sanctioned I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds.
The 11x of Don Buchanan lead the field to the green. The 36 of Jay Shrout to his outside got the jump on the 11x and lead the field to turn one. The caution came out on lap 7 for the 37 of Sean Lias who apparently had mechanical problems. The green flew once again with Arkport New York's Mike Smith taking the lead and Smith went on to the victory with the 08 of Rich Talada with a very good run finishing second and the X Factor Larry Robbins crossing the stripe in third.
The Street Stocks were up next. Elmira's Al Silvernail starting on the outside pole took the early lead. Eric Matthews in his number 11 would take the lead away on lap 10. Lap 13 caution would slow the field as the 83 of Eddie McKernan had a right front flat. Mckernan would return to the field on the lead lap thanks to some great pit work by his crew. The green would fly again and Matthews would go on to take his first feature victory for 2006. Finishing second was the 15 of Ed Sites and the 68 of Rich McNeal making his debut for 2006 was third.
Redline will return to exciting racing action this Friday evening June 2. WTTC the Bridge 95.3 FM will be on hand for the first part of the evening and the Mini Stocks are to take 300 dollars home if they can take the feature victory. Gates open at 5 warm ups at 7 racing at 8.
