Alan Johnson won his first DIRT Modified feature of the 2004 season at Brewerton last Friday April 30. It was the first Big Block win for Alan and Troyer Engineering. It was his 40th career win at Brewerton.

BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson came from a consi starting position to win the 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Johnson took the lead away from Billy Decker on lap-32 and led the rest of the distance. The victory for the driver of the H&H Motorsports team was worth $2,000. Fans were treated to numerous official lead changes in the wild event.

Vinnie Vitale raced out to the early lead at the start of the DIRT Big Block Modified main event from the outside pole starting position. Scott Prentice became the second leader of the event on lap two. The lead swapping started right from the start with Prentice leading lap three and Vitale back in front on laps four. With five laps complete Prentice was the leader once again with Vitale, Chuck Hebing, Decker and Chuck Bower following.

This lead by Prentice would last longer, up until the 14th circuit. Vitale regained the top spot on lap-15. At the halfway point Vitale, Prentice, Decker, Bower and Pat Ward raced in the top five positions. Following in the top ten at this stage in order included Johnson, Hebing, Gary Tomkins, Ryan Phelps and Matt Sheppard. Vitale was running a strong race, but several drivers were starting to challenge for the win.

Decker took the lead away from Vitale on lap-24. At this time Decker was followed in the top five by Bower, Vitale, Johnson and Prentice. It was time for Johnson to make his late race Brewerton Speedway charge. On lap 25 Johnson moved into the third position and he set his sights on Decker and Bower. On lap-28 Johnson moved into the second spot and set his sights on Decker.

Johnson started to close in on Decker in search of his first win of the season. Decker attempted to keep Johnson back, but it wasn’t to be. On lap-32 Johnson got under Decker to take the lead and eventual win. Decker had to settle for second with Tomkins, Bower and Ward completing the top five feature finishers.

Johnny Hill won his first IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday in the 20-lap main event. Bob Bradt, Bill Anderson Sr., George Valenti and Bob Ridgeway followed Hill across the finish line. Hill took the lead from Anderson on the seventh circuit and led the rest of the distance.

Joe Garafolo claimed his first feature win of the 2004 season in the 20-lap Dwarf Car / Mod Lite main event. Darren Forbes, Mark Cooper, Doug Williams and Rick Demo completed the top five feature finishers. Cooper was the highest finishing Dwarf Car with a strong third place effort.
