TOMKINS WINS FIRST EVER BREWERTON SPEEDWAY DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE ON BEACHY’S TORO ZERO TURNING MOWERS NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…Gary Tomkins claimed his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified feature win at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night with the Elaine James Motorsports Team. Tomkins picked a good time for his first victory with the win coming on Beachy’s Toro Zero Turning Mower Headquarters Night. The feature race was stopped on lap-12 when Tim Fuller wildly flipped down the front straight. Fuller escaped uninjured in the ordeal.
Bob McCreadie raced out to the early lead at the start of the Beachy’s Toro Zero Turning Mower Headquarters DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. The multi-time Brewerton Speedway Track Champion led the first six circuits. Vinnie Vitale took the top spot away from McCreadie on lap seven. With 10 laps complete Vitale and McCreadie were followed in the top five by Tomkins, Tom Sears and Scott Prentice.
Action was stopped on lap-12 when Tim Fuller flipped wildly down the front straight. Chuck Hebing and Fuller came together against the front stretch wall, which sent Fuller’s car high in the air. The car then rolled several times before landing upside down. The opening night feature winner was shaken in the ordeal, but otherwise uninjured.
It was on lap-14 when Tomkins took the lead away from Vitale. At the halfway point Tomkins and Vitale were being followed in the top five by Sears, Billy Decker and McCreadie. Alan Johnson, Prentice, Ryan Phelps, Matt Sheppard and Vic Coffey raced in positions sixth through tenth at the halfway mark.
In the closing laps Decker attempted to work his way around Tomkins, but the lead never changed hands. Tomkins recorded his first ever Brewerton Speedway feature win in the third event of the new season. Decker, Johnson, Sears and Sheppard completed the top five feature finishers in the highly competitive field.
Bob Bradt won his first IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday night. Bill Anderson Sr., Johnny Hill, Sean Lias and George Valenti completed the top five feature finishers behind Bradt. On lap 13 Bradt took the top spot away from Anderson in a battle of former Brewerton Speedway Track Champions. Bradt led the rest of the distance for the victory in the very competitive event.
Don Fenner won his first ever Dwarf Car / Mod Lite feature race last Friday evening. Dan Williams, Rick Demo, Steve Miller and Darren Forbes completed the top five feature finishers. Frank Doll Jr. was the highest finishing traditional Dwarf Car with a sixth place outing. Fenner passed Demo with just two laps to go to earn the victory.
Jeff Herbert claimed his second Four Cylinder Super Stock feature win of the season last Friday night. Lorrie Herbert followed her husband across the finish line. Chuck Powelczyk, Ken Klinkowsky and Dusty Wassner finished in positions third though fifth respectively. Jeff Herbert passed Lorrie on lap five for the lead, in which he would never give back.
